An Assistant Manager, Online Distribution is one of the most critical roles in modern hospitality revenue management. By balancing technology, relationships, and strategy, they maximize online revenue potential, reduce OTA dependency, and enhance the guest booking experience.

The Assistant Manager, Online Distribution is a key strategic player in a hotel's revenue and digital ecosystem. Often perceived as the bridge between revenue management, e-commerce, and sales, this role is critical in ensuring the hotels rooms are visible, competitively priced, and easily bookable across multiple online channels.

Responsibility of the Role:

Revenue Driver

  • The role is seen as a revenue-generating function, responsible for optimizing the hotels presence on OTAs, metasearch platforms, and direct booking channels.
  • They directly influence RevPAR, ADR, and GOP by ensuring the right mix of distribution channels at the right price points. 

Tech-Savvy Strategist

  • Often viewed as the "tech person" in revenue and distribution meetings, leveraging channel managers, CRS, booking engines, and meta-search tools.
  • Ensures API connections between systems are seamless, reducing errors and maximizing automation.

Negotiator & Relationship Manager

  • Seen as the go-to person for OTA and third-party partnerships, constantly negotiating commission rates, visibility opportunities, and exclusive deals.
  • Balances relationships with Booking.com, Expedia, Agoda, and regional OTAs, making them a critical stakeholder in digital distribution.

Guardian of Rate Parity & Inventory Control

  • Internally perceived as the "watchdog" who ensures rate parity, preventing wholesalers and unauthorized sellers from undercutting the brand website.
  • Works closely with revenue teams to monitor availability, prevent overbookings, and optimize inventory distribution.

Direct Booking Advocate

  • Often a strong proponent of driving traffic away from OTAs and towards the hotels direct channels.
  • Works closely with digital marketing teams to enhance website usability, booking engine conversions, CRM and Social Media campaigns.

Data-Driven Decision Maker

  • Considered the "numbers person" who constantly analyzes performance metrics, from conversion rates to OTA market share.
  • Uses data from IBE Analytics, OTA dashboards, and revenue reports to refine pricing and distribution strategies.

Internal Educator & Process Enforcer

  • Perceived as a trainer and enforcer, ensuring that front desk, reservations, and sales teams understand distribution strategies and follow SOPs.
  • Works cross-functionally with marketing, revenue management, and IT to ensure smooth operational execution.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelors degree in Business Administration, Marketing, Hospitality Management, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 3 years experience in e-commerce, online distribution, or digital sales, preferably in the hospitality industry.
  • Strong understanding of OTA (Online Travel Agency) platforms, GDS systems, and channel managers.
  • Excellent analytical skills with the ability to interpret data and make data-driven decisions.
  • Proficient in using distribution tools and systems.
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills to work effectively with sales, marketing, and revenue teams.
