Type of Employment: Part-Time, up to six (6) hours per day, three (3) days per week.

Estimate Pay: $34.34 – $39.43 per hour.

Paid Time Off: Up to 40 hours per year, which starts accruing on the day of hire.

Sick Leave per Year: Up to 56 hours per year, which starts occurring on the day of hire.

Paid Federal Holidays: Eleven (11) Paid Federal Holidays

Working Hours

The Radiology Technician will normally work three days per week, 6:30 am to 3:00 pm, with a 30-minute unpaid lunch break. The Phlebotomist will not work more than 18 hours a week.

Summary of Duties

The Radiology Technician will provide comprehensive diagnostic imaging services for the Adult in Custody (AIC) population, performing a full range of routine radiologic procedures and independently selecting appropriate technical factors to ensure high‑quality diagnostic exams. The role includes transmitting and retrieving digital images and reports, maintaining accurate electronic medical records, scheduling exams, and coordinating radiologic consultations. Additional responsibilities include preparing and transporting X‑rays for radiologist interpretation, notifying medical staff of preliminary abnormalities, maintaining supplies, adhering to CDC universal precautions, and supporting administrative tasks such as printing logs, requisitions, and exam labels.

Qualifications

  • Be a graduate from an accredited school or program for a Radiological Technologist.
  • Must be licensed to perform radiological procedures by the American Registry of Radiological Technologists.
  • Must have an unrestricted state license to practice in the state of Maryland as a Radiological Technologist.
  • Be registered with the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT).
  • A minimum of three (3) or more years of experience as a Radiological Technologist.
  • Must be Cardio-Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) certified either by the American Red Cross (ARC)or the American Heart Association (AHA).

Attire

The contractor is expected to wear professional clothing while on duty (scrub uniforms are approved). No khaki, orange, or green scrubs. The attire worn shall also be appropriate for the correctional environment in which the contract employee will be performing.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Perform routine radiologic procedures ordered by the medical staff for the Adult in Custody (AIC) population at the institution.
  • Transmit, retrieve X-ray images and reports electronically, and scan reports into AICs Bureau Electronic Medical Record (BEMR).
  • Receive training to retrieve radiographic consultants from BEMR and schedule them to perform all radiographic procedures.
  • Work with an AIC population from a variety of cultural, racial, religious, and ethnic backgrounds.
  • Evaluate radiographic equipment for calibrations and repairs.
  • Possess knowledge of basic emergency situations that may occur during special radiographic procedures.
  • Schedule exams and maintain records.
  • Possess knowledge of various pathological abnormalities as demonstrated by radiographic imaging.
  • Independently assess and select technical exposure factors and positions necessary to obtain a proper quality diagnostic exam. Receive patients and explain procedures to alleviate undue anxiety.
  • Independently perform all radiographic procedures, i.e., chest, bone, skull, spine, and portable x-rays, etc.
  • Notify the radiologist or referring Physician of any preliminary abnormalities seen while the patient is undergoing an exam, so that additional views or exams can be ordered if needed.
  • Coordinate transfer of patient radiologic records to ensure continuity of care.
  • Work with the Clinical Director to ensure monitoring and evaluation activities are completed.
  • Act as liaison between radiologist and medical staff.
  • Receive training and orientation and comply with correctional techniques as they pertain to medical services.
  • Develop a working knowledge of the local medical protocols.
  • Wear outer protective clothing and always obey the Centers for Disease Control and Preventions universal precautions.
  • Function in other duties commensurate with a Radiology Technician.
  • Computerization and printing of the daily log.
  • Computerization and printing of exam requisitions.
  • Printing of all folders and exam labels.
  • Completing all X-ray studies ordered by the medical staff.
  • Preparing x-rays for shipment to the radiologist for interpretation.
  • Transport of X-rays to the radiologist for interpretation.
  • Transport all x-rays from the radiologist after interpretation.
  • Assisting the staff with the maintenance of equipment and supplies, and notifying staff when supplies are needed.
  • Conducting quality assurance tests and daily maintenance on X-ray equipment as needed.
  • Assisting with FDA inspections and preparation for TJC and program review as needed.
  • Assuring that all X-ray requests are completed properly.
  • Computerization of patient logs and repeat analysis.
  • The Contractor will provide services, professional in nature, in the method considered normal in the local community and in accordance with JCAHO standards and Bureau of Prison policies. These services, although not directly supervised, will be reviewed by the Clinical.
  • Director of the Health Services Department. The performance of these services will also be verified by the designated Contract Monitor.
  • The contractor must prepare monthly and quarterly reports on IOP measures and submit reports to the IOP Coordinator.
  • The Contractor will be responsible for personal health care needs and costs associated with exposure, or possible exposure to any blood-borne pathogen or other risk encountered during performance of this contract.
  • The contractor may assist with alternative duties, including Medical records printing and scanning, to assist with administrative duties.
  • These alternative duties are only to be performed if radiological duties are completed or unavailable.
