  • Estimate Pay: $27.00 per hour.
  • Benefits Offered: Health/Dental and Vision.
  • Paid Time Off per Year: Up to 80 hours per year, which starts accruing on the day of hire.
  • Sick Leave per Year: Up to 56 hours per year, which starts occurring on the day of hire.
  • Paid Federal Holidays: Eleven (11) Paid Federal Holidays.
  • Summary of Services

The Licensed Vocational Nurse (LVN) will assist in delivering comprehensive medical and nursing services in support of the various San Antonio Independent School District facilities.

Working Hours

The Licensed Vocational Nurse typically works 7:00 am- 5:30 pm, with a 30-minute unpaid lunch break, Monday through Friday, excluding holidays. These hours may be adjusted to meet the institution's needs. The contractor should not exceed 40 hours per week.

Attire

The Licensed Vocational Nurse is expected to wear professional clothing while on duty.

Qualifications

  • Graduate of an Accredited Licensed Vocational Nursing School/Program.
  • Current, active, and unrestricted license to practice nursing in the State of Texas.
  • Certification in Cardio-Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) for Healthcare Providers by the American Heart Association.
  • Minimum of two (2) years of experience

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Administer nursing care to student(s) according to District protocols and Health Care Provider orders during District transport to and from school, during the school day, and/or school-related activities, as necessitated by the medical condition of the student(s).
  • Ascertain that all required equipment/supplies are available, clean, in good working order, and within the expiration date when providing care to specified assigned students.
  • Maintain and check oxygen cylinders daily, if used or stored in the school, for specified students.
  • Maintain health records and documentation of nursing care provided according to the District protocols
  • Communicate with School Administration and Campus Nurse regarding the health care provided and the health needs of student(s).
  • Observe Professional and Ethical Standards in accordance with the Texas Nurse Practice Act.
  • Maintain a professional relationship with students, staff, and families in accordance with District Policy.
  • Maintain confidentiality of Student Health Information and provide for Student Privacy, to include the privacy of all students in the classroom when assigned as a Private Duty Nurse.
  • Be able to recognize respiratory distress and immediately initiate resuscitative measures such as suctioning, CPR, and reinsertion of the tracheostomy tube. Skills in other procedures may be necessary, including, but not limited to, all of the following:
    • Tracheostomy Care
    • Care of a Ventilator-dependent student
    • Nebulizer Treatments
    • Suctioning
    • Gastrostomy Care and Feeding, including Feeding Pumps
    • Use of an Ambubag
    • Catheterization
    • Vagal Nerve Stimulator
  • Provide direct patient care in accordance with legal, ethical, and institutional standards through the evaluation of patients and therapeutic treatment.
  • Perform nursing duties within the scope of the current licensure.
  • Administer medications as prescribed, i.e., by mouth, intradermally, subcutaneously, or intramuscularly.
  • Assist with the distribution of medications.
  • Perform skin testing.
  • Perform venipuncture for the purpose of obtaining laboratory specimens.
  • Maintain patient privacy and confidentiality.
  • Adhere to infection control policies and procedures.
  • Clinically manage injuries by splinting and immobilizing.
  • Attend to medical emergencies.
  • Assist in determining conditions, resources, and policies essential to the delivery of the health care services.
  • Discriminates between normal and abnormal findings to recognize early stages of serious physical, emotional, or mental problems.
