Working Hours
The Physician will provide services when requested. Working hours are to be determined. 

Qualifications

  • Education: Graduation from an accredited medical school; MD/DO.
  • Training: Board Certified or Board Eligible, having completed an undergraduate program, ACGME-accredited medical school (MD or DO). Successful completion of a residency program as applicable
  • License: Must be certified to practice medicine in the state of California.
  • Certifications: General Practitioner, at minimum; Board Eligibility/Board Certification preferred or as required by the ordering service.
  • References: Minimum of three (3) professional references
  • Experience: Minimum one year of experience in the respective specialty. Additional experience and qualifications as outlined by the ordering service.
  • Other: Basic and Advanced Life Support certification in accordance with the American Heart Association Basic Life Support.

Summary of Duties: The Physician will provide comprehensive medical care by performing physical examinations, diagnosing and treating illnesses and injuries, ordering and interpreting diagnostic tests, prescribing medications in accordance with the approved formulary, and responding to medical emergencies. Collaborate with healthcare staff and specialists, ensure accurate documentation and quality of care, and adhere to institutional, ethical, and regulatory standards.

Attire

The Physician is required to dress appropriately for the work environment. This includes business attire or scrubs. No khaki or green scrubs. The clothing worn shall also be appropriate for the correctional environment in which the contract employee will be performing services.

FCC Victorville will not be responsible for providing a uniform allowance. Jeans (of any color), T-shirts, sandals (of any type), tank tops, and sweatpants/shirts are not considered appropriate professional attire.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Provide specialized medical services to outpatients and provide medical care.
  • Specific duties may involve all aspects of healthcare delivery and will work in concert with both institution staff and consultant specialists in various clinical areas.
  • Performs all duties in accordance with current accepted medical practices and procedures.
  • Performs complete physical examinations.
  • Collects comprehensive medical and social history to include a review of all body systems.
  • Performs physical assessment in correlation with historical findings, records preliminary objective findings.
  • Examines and orders appropriate diagnostic testing and provides necessary treatment and/or medications as required. Refers selected cases to consultant specialists when necessary.
  • Refers inmates requiring hospitalization to a community hospital and to an appropriate admitting physician.
  • Additionally, the clinician may see inmate patients who are in locked status, in their designated housing area, or housed in segregation units.
  • Conducts examinations of personnel as required for appointment.
  • Approves or disapproves examinations in such cases from a medical viewpoint and in accordance with current established medical standards for employees.
  • Administers or directs administration of both curative and preventive inoculations.
  • Prescribes medications, treatments, and fully utilizes health services for treatment, rehabilitation, and diagnostic modalities.
  • Contract Physician shall only prescribe pharmaceutical drugs that are listed in the approved BOP Formulary.
  • Requests for exemptions shall be submitted to the Clinical Director, who shall obtain the required approvals.
