  • Type of Employment: Full-Time, 40 hours per week.
  • Estimate Pay: $36.84/hour.
  • Paid Time Off per Year: Up to 80-hours per year, occurring on day one.
  • Sick Leave per Year: Up to 56-hours per year, occurring on day one.
  • Paid Federal Holidays: Eleven (11) Paid Federal Holidays

Working Hours

The Dental Hygienist will normally work from Monday through Friday from 6:30am to 3:00pm with a 30-minute unpaid lunch break. The Dental Hygienist will not work more than 40 hours a week.

Summary of Duties

The Dental Hygienist will be responsible for personal health care needs and costs associated with exposure, or possible exposure to any blood borne pathogen or other risk encountered during performance of their Duties.

Qualifications

  • Must be a graduated from an accredited school of Dental Hygienist School or program.
  • Licensed as a Dental Hygienist by the Kentucky Board of Dentistry.
  • Must have at least two (2) or more years of experience.
  • Must be Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) certified either by the American Red Cross (ARC)or the American Heart Association (AHA).

Attire

The Dental Hygienist is expected to wear professional clothing while on duty (scrub uniforms are approved). The attire worn shall also be appropriate for the correctional environment in which the contractor will be performing. The Dental Hygienist is prohibited from wearing khaki or green clothing of any type as this is the color clothing the Adults in Custody (AIC) population wear.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Provide dental prophylaxis on AIC(s) who are referred by the dental staff.
  • Provide thorough individualized oral hygiene instructions to each patient.
  • Monitor oral hygiene and periodontal condition on each patient seen for dental prophylaxis.
  • Complete necessary dental x-rays as specified by the dentist.
  • Sterilize instruments used for prophylaxis and other instruments as specified by the dental staff.
  • Perform necessary paperwork related to scheduling patients for dental prophylaxis as directed by the dental staff.
