  • Type of Employment: Full-Time, 40 hours per week.
  • Estimate Pay: $23.90/hour.
  • Paid Time Off per Year: Up to 80-hours per year, occurring on day one.
  • Sick Leave per Year: Up to 56-hours per year, occurring on day one.
  • Paid Federal Holidays: Twelve (12) Paid Federal Holidays

Working Hours
The Pharmacy Technician will normally work from Monday through Thursday from 6:30am to 3:00pm with a 30-minute unpaid lunch break. The Pharmacy Technician will not work more than 40 hours a week.

Summary of Duties
The Pharmacy Technician will provide services such as reading and interpreting prescriptions and medication orders written by medical staff, selection, and retrieval of medications of correct strength and dosage form prescribed, transcribe prescription data to labels using computer systems, prepare prescriptions for review by a pharmacist prior to dispensing, give pertinent patient instructions when appropriate; complete stock medication orders as instructed by the pharmacist.

Qualifications

  • Must have a certificate of training for Pharmacy Technician services from an approved state program.
  • Must have a Pharmacy Technician license (Registered) from the state of Connecticut.
  • A minimum of one (1) year of Pharmacy Technician experience.
  • Must be Cardio-Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) certified either by the American Red Cross (ARC)or the American Heart Association (AHA).

Attire

The contractor is expected to wear professional clothing while on duty (scrub uniforms are approved). The attire worn shall also be appropriate for the correctional environment in which the contract employee will be performing.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Read and interpret prescriptions and medication orders written by medical staff, selection, and retrieval of medications of correct strength and dosage form prescribed, transcribe prescription data to labels using computer systems, prepare prescriptions for review by a pharmacist prior to dispensing, give pertinent patient instructions when appropriate; complete stock medication orders as instructed by the pharmacist.
  • Fill, issue, and/or deal in any way with Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) controlled substances but can be responsible for the running of all pill lines upon proper orientation by the Pharmacist.
  • Assist the Pharmacist in ensuring the only medications listed in the approved Bureau of Prison (BOP) Formulary are dispensed and will ensure that requests for non-Formulary medications are initiated and submitted to the Pharmacist for approval.
  • Be proficient in maintaining adequate inventories of all medications and medical supplies and preparing the proper paperwork for replenishment of inventory, as well as maintaining an expiration date log to ensure no outdated or expired stock remains in the inventory.
  • Assist in updating patient education literature, assisting in improvement of performance studies and assist the Pharmacist in meeting policy guidelines for the adults in custody.
  • Prepare recommended supply lists to order pharmaceuticals, maintain the pharmacy areas in a clean and orderly fashion, maintain stock of appropriate forms utilized in the Pharmacy department, and shall, in the absence of the Pharmacist, maintain the Pharmacy operation, within guidelines governing the duties of the Pharmacy Technician.
  • Prescriptions must be reviewed by a pharmacist prior to dispensing to the adults in custody.
  • Accurately input a minimum of 25 prescriptions per hour.
  • Services will be provided in the method considered normal in the local community and in accordance with the Joint Commission (JC) standards and BOP policies.
  • These services, although unsupervised by the Government, will be monitored and verified by the Contracting Officer Representative (COR).
