- Clearance Requirements: National Background Check with Inquires, Fingerprints and Drug Screen.
- Type of Employment: Full-Time, 40 hours per week.
- Estimate Pay: $56.00 to $60.00/hour.
- Paid Time Off per Year: Up to 80-hours per year, occurring on day one.
- Sick Leave per Year: Up to 56-hours per year, occurring on day one.
- Paid Federal Holidays: Eleven (11) Paid Federal Holidays
Working Hours
The Physician Assistant or Nurse Practitioner will normally work Monday through Friday from 7:30am to 4:00pm with a 30-minute unpaid lunch break - no more than 40 hours a week.
Qualifications
- Graduate of an accredited school and who is licensed to practice as a Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant in the state of California, without restrictions.
- Provide verification of credentials (education, current licensure/status competency, continuing medical education), and proof of malpractice insurance, as required by the Joint Commission.
- Must have at least three or more years of experience.
- Must be Cardio-Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) certified, in accordance with the American Heart Association Basic Life Support.
- Must have a current ACLS certification

Attire
The Physician Assistant or Nurse Practitioner is expected to wear professional clothing while on duty (scrub uniforms are approved). The attire worn shall also be appropriate for the correctional environment in which the contractor will be performing. The Physician Assistant or Nurse Practitioner is prohibited from wearing khaki or green clothing of any type as this is the color clothing the Adults in Custody (AIC) population wear.
Duties and Responsibilities
All duties shall be performed in accordance with standards and methods generally accepted within the field of Nurse Practitioner services, and compliance with all Federal and State policy and regulations. The Physician Assistant or Nurse Practitioner shall adhere to all standards and regulations associated with the Accreditation Association for Ambulatory Health Care (AAAHC) and American Correctional Association Foundation/Core Standards for Adult Correctional Institutions. The Physician Assistant or Nurse Practitioners performance shall be monitored by the Contracting Officers Representative (COR). The Physician Assistant or Nurse Practitioner must have the ability to work with an inmate population from a variety of cultural, regional, racial, and ethnic backgrounds.
The Physician Assistant or Nurse Practitioner shall be responsible for, but is not limited to:
- Provide diagnostic, therapeutic, and preventive health care services for the adult in custody population
- Take medical histories, examine patients, and order and interpret laboratory tests and x-rays
- Make a diagnosis, provide treatment plans and prescribe medications
- Clinically manage injuries by suturing, splinting, and immobilizing
- Attend to medical emergencies
- Record progress notes, recommend clinically necessary outside consultation, instruct and counsel, and order or carry out therapy
- Emergency consultation to be performed by the Physician Assistant or Nurse Practitioner in instances where deemed necessary. Perform minor surgery utilizing local anesthesia during consultation visits
- Work collaboratively with the staff physician(s) and consulting physician(s) in planning, instituting, evaluating and revising program plans
- Assist in determining conditions, resources and policies essential to delivery of the health care services
- Discriminate between normal and abnormal findings to recognize early stages of serious physical, emotional, or mental problems
- Manage the daily operation of the clinic and conduct daily sick call; which may include securing health histories from the patient, recording findings and providing clinical evaluations
- Provide a wide range of emergency services, in the absence of the physician
