Job Overview
Our client, a large NJ healthcare organization, is seeking a seasoned House Supervisor for the night shift (6:45 pm - 7:15 am, 36 hrs/week) with every‐other‐weekend coverage, and on‐call commitment. This leadership role is the clinical and operational "eyes and ears of the hospital during off‐hours. You'll oversee patient care flow, staffing, resource allocation, and serve as the incident command lead until senior leadership arrives.
You will:
- Ensure safe, effective care across all departments during the assigned shift, including weekends and holidays.
- Monitor patient flow, appropriate placement (inpatient/observation/ambulatory), bed usage, admissions/discharges/transfers in concert with the capacity team.
- Provide leadership, mentorship, and clinical resource support to nursing and allied health staff.
- Lead on‐site during emergencies (codes, rapid responses), deploy staff/supplies/equipment, and initiate the Incident Command role in the absence of administrators.
- Round on units, collaborate with department managers (nursing, ED, case management, infection control, ancillary services) to resolve issues, maintain operations, and optimize care.
- Communicate trends, complaints, and unusual occurrences to leadership; initiate follow‐up or corrective actions as needed.
- Interpret and enforce hospital, regulatory, and accreditation policies (e.g., EMTALA, JC Standards, State health dept).
- Assist in performance improvement initiatives, staff evaluation input, competency assessment, and disciplinary processes in conjunction with managers.
Qualifications
Required:
- Current Registered Nurse license in New Jersey.
- Associate's degree in Nursing or diploma in Nursing; commitment to completing BSN within three years preferred.
- Minimum of four years of recent clinical RN experience demonstrating strong leadership in a hospital setting.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office / Google Suite, strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Demonstrated ability to work independently and in a leadership role overseeing multiple areas/units.
Preferred:
- Knowledge of utilization review criteria, discharge planning, and case management.
- Previous experience with bed‐control, patient throughput, and hospital operations during nights/weekends.
