About Fikra Project

Fikra is an all-in-one operations platform for masjids across the United States — managing finances, memberships, workflows, and the full range of operations a community center needs. It is a product built with purpose, and we are scaling the team to bring it to more communities.

The Role

We are looking for a backend developer to own the server-side architecture and data layer of Fikra. You will design and build the APIs, data models, and infrastructure that power the platform — working closely with the frontend developer and product stakeholders to ship a reliable, scalable system. This is a hands-on role with real ownership over how the product runs under the hood.

What You'll Do

• Build and maintain backend services and REST APIs using Fastify.js
• Design and manage PostgreSQL databases with Prisma as the ORM
• Own the data models that underpin Fikra's core modules: finances, memberships, workflows, and operations
• Manage deployment and infrastructure on Railway including environment configuration and scaling
• Write and maintain CI/CD pipelines, Bash scripts, and YAML configurations
• Ensure data integrity, security, and performance across the backend
• Collaborate async with the frontend developer and product team across time zones

What We're Looking For

Must have:

• 2+ years of professional backend development experience
• Strong proficiency in Node.js and TypeScript/JavaScript
• Hands-on experience with Fastify or a comparable Node.js framework
• Experience with PostgreSQL and an ORM (Prisma strongly preferred)
• Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines, YAML configuration, and Bash scripting
• Comfortable managing infrastructure and deployments in cloud or PaaS environments

Nice to have:

• Experience with Railway or similar deployment platforms
• Experience designing multi-module data models for SaaS or operations platforms
• Familiarity with role-based access control and permission systems
• Experience working on community, nonprofit, or civic tech products

Role Details

• Location: Remote
• Hours: 40 hours/week, minimum 4 hours daily overlap with US ET Timezone
• Work week: Monday - Friday
• Start: As soon as possible
