Requirements for Clinical Director of Adult Medicine

  • 3-5 years of clinical experience in adult medicine, with a preference for those who have practiced as an attending physician.
  • Medical Degree (MD)
  • Board Certification: Certification in internal medicine, family medicine, or a related adult medicine specialty.
  • State Medical License: A valid and active medical license in the state of employment.
  • Additional Education: Masters Degree in Healthcare Administration (MHA); Business Administration (MBA); Public Health (MPH) preferred, but not required.
  • Must be US Citizen or Authorized to Work in the United States

SKILLS:
Skills and Abilities Required for Clinical Director of Adult Medicine

  • Leadership Experience: Experience in a clinical leadership role, such as a medical director, department head, or chief medical officer, is often required.
  • Patient Care: Hands-on experience managing complex adult patient cases, including chronic diseases, geriatric care, and preventive care.
  • Experience with Health Systems: Familiarity with healthcare systems, hospitals, or ambulatory care settings.
  • Supervision: Proven ability to supervise, mentor, and lead a team of healthcare providers, including doctors, nurse practitioners, and support staff.
  • Policy Development: Experience in developing clinical guidelines, protocols, and policies to ensure high-quality care and regulatory compliance.
  • Operational Oversight: Involvement in managing day-to-day clinical operations, resource allocation, and patient flow.
  • Quality Improvement: Experience with quality assurance, patient safety, and continuous quality improvement (CQI) initiatives.
  • Budgeting: Familiarity with budgeting and financial management, including oversight of departmental finances and resource management.
  • Knowledge of Regulations / Healthcare Compliance: Thorough knowledge of healthcare regulations, including HIPAA, CMS, and Joint Commission standards.
  • Risk Management: Understanding of risk management, patient safety protocols, and infection control measures.
  • Coding and Billing: Basic knowledge of medical billing, coding, and reimbursement processes.
  • Technology & Systems / Electronic Health Records (EHR): Proficiency in EHR systems and data analytics tools.
  • Telemedicine: Familiarity with telemedicine platforms and virtual care models.
  • Medical Technology: Understanding of diagnostic and treatment technologies used in adult medicine.
