Packaging Designer

Full-Time | US Working Hours | Independent Contractor | Remote

Our client is a growing consumer products company that manufactures crafts, toys, and related products in China and sells to major US retailers including Walmart and Target. They are looking for a creative and detail-oriented Packaging Designer to take ownership of packaging design and support the development of products from concept through to production.

This is an exciting opportunity for a designer who enjoys working with physical products and wants to see their creative work come to life on retail shelves.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design creative, engaging, and retail-ready packaging for crafts, toys, and consumer products
  • Develop packaging concepts that align with brand guidelines, product positioning, and retailer requirements
  • Create packaging layouts, artwork, mockups, and production-ready design files
  • Work closely with manufacturers and suppliers in China to communicate design requirements and manage revisions
  • Collaborate with internal teams on new product concepts, packaging ideas, revisions, and approvals
  • Ensure packaging artwork, labeling, product information, and specifications are accurate and compliant with retailer requirements
  • Prepare visual presentations and mockups for internal review and client or retailer approval
  • Manage multiple packaging projects simultaneously while keeping designs and revisions on schedule
  • Review proofs and samples to ensure the final product accurately reflects the approved artwork
  • Make design adjustments based on feedback from internal teams, manufacturers, and retailers
  • Maintain organized packaging artwork, files, specifications, and version control
  • Stay aware of current packaging, retail, and consumer product design trends

Requirements

  • Proven experience as a Packaging Designer, Graphic Designer, Product Designer, or similar role
  • Strong portfolio demonstrating packaging design and creative development
  • Excellent knowledge of Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop, and/or InDesign
  • Experience creating print-ready artwork and understanding packaging production requirements
  • Strong understanding of typography, layout, color, branding, and visual hierarchy
  • Experience designing packaging for physical consumer products, toys, crafts, or retail products is highly preferred
  • Experience working with overseas manufacturers or suppliers, particularly in China, is an advantage
  • Experience designing products sold through major US retailers such as Walmart, Target, or similar retailers is a strong advantage
  • Highly organized with excellent attention to detail
  • Ability to manage multiple projects, revisions, and deadlines simultaneously
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills
  • Ability to work independently while coordinating effectively with remote teams and overseas manufacturers
  • Must be comfortable working US business hours
