About the job Controller
In this role you will be responsible for managing financial activities, transactions, and processes for Evening Post Publishing Newspaper Group. Perform financial analysis, develop financial planning processes, and design and implement overall business plans. In addition is responsible for overseeing all accounting functions related to commercial print business and circulation for the Newspaper Group.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Review and streamline accounting operations by identifying opportunities for process automation and integration of AI
- Participate in company and departmental financial reviews
- Assist in the company-wide annual budget process
- Manage, train and mentor accounting staff
- Oversee all accounting functions related to commercial print business including billing and job cost reporting for the Newspaper Group
- Ensure inventories are accurate and reported correctly on the financial statements
- Oversee purchasing of newsprint, plates, and ink for the Newspaper Group
- Oversee general ledger reconciliations
- Benchmark reporting on key metrics
- Responsible for circulation accounting and processes, including weekly carrier billing for the Newspaper Group
- Assists in ensuring internal controls are adequate and followed
- Perform other duties as requested by management
Requirements, minimum education level, and experience:
- Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, Business or a Related Field
- Five years of accounting experience, preferred but not required.

- Organization, data entry skills, and general math skills
- Knowledge of general accounting principles
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to multitask and work independently according to procedures and policies given to meet deadlines
Physical Requirement, Work Environment and Travel:
Close eye work, continuous sitting, constant walking, standing, light to moderate lifting 15-30 pounds (per safety policy)
The worker is subject to inside environmental conditions, which provide protection from weather conditions but not necessarily from temperature changes
Some in-state travel to community newspaper sites required.
