About the job Editorial Writer
Join ouir award-winning team in writing and editing editorials as a member of the editorial staff, which crafts opinion pieces that represent the institutional voice of The Post and Courier and its core values. Support the editing of other opinion content for print and digital platforms.
Responsibilities:
- Research and write high-quality, insightful and persuasive editorials on behalf of the editorial staff.
- Assist with editing colleagues' work on the editorial staff and help edit op-eds and letters to the editor.
- Stay abreast of local, state and national news, especially on topics important to South Carolina.
- Contribute ideas for the editorial staff to explore and develop into policy recommendations and solutions.
- Rigorously fact-check opinion section content to ensure its accuracy and help maintain the credibility of the newspaper and protect it from libel.
- Contribute to the newspaper's online presence with strong digital skills and through the use of social media.
- Perform other duties as requested by management.
Requirements, minimum education level and experience:
Bachelor's degree required, preferably in Communications, English, Journalism or related field.
At least 5 years of writing and editing experience in journalism or a related field. DELETE THIS PART:with particular experience in opinion writing.
Experience with Associated Press style guidelines.

Physical Requirement: Close eye work, continuous sitting, constant walking, standing, light to moderate lifting 15-30 pounds (per safety policy).
