Role Summary
Our client is seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Legal / Property Manager to provide legal advisory support while overseeing property-related matters and documentation.
The successful candidate will support contract management, property transactions, legal compliance, corporate governance, documentation, and stakeholder engagements. The role requires a strong understanding of corporate and property law, excellent documentation skills, and the ability to effectively coordinate with internal teams, external solicitors, regulators, vendors, and other stakeholders.
Key Responsibilities
Legal Advisory & Contract Management
- Provide legal advisory support on corporate, commercial, property, and operational matters.
- Review, draft, and negotiate contracts, agreements, leases, deeds, and other legal documents.
- Identify potential legal risks and provide practical recommendations to management.
- Ensure contracts and agreements are properly executed, renewed, monitored, and securely maintained.
- Support the resolution of contractual disputes and other legal matters in collaboration with external counsel where required.
Property & Asset Management
- Manage legal and administrative documentation relating to the organization's properties and real estate assets.
- Coordinate property acquisitions, leases, renewals, disposals, tenancy arrangements, and related transactions.
- Maintain an up-to-date register of property documents, leases, agreements, titles, permits, and other relevant records.
- Liaise with landlords, tenants, vendors, property consultants, surveyors, solicitors, and other property stakeholders.
- Monitor property-related obligations, renewals, payments, documentation, and compliance requirements.
Legal Compliance & Regulatory Support
- Monitor compliance with applicable laws, regulations, statutory requirements, and internal policies.
- Support regulatory submissions, responses, correspondence, and documentation where applicable.
- Conduct legal research on relevant developments affecting the organization's operations and property interests.
- Identify compliance gaps and recommend appropriate corrective actions.
- Maintain proper records of regulatory and legal correspondence.
Corporate Governance & Company Secretarial Support
- Support corporate governance processes and company secretarial activities.
- Assist with preparation of board, committee, and management documentation.
- Maintain accurate corporate records, statutory documents, resolutions, and meeting documentation.
- Support the implementation and documentation of corporate decisions and governance requirements.
Stakeholder & External Counsel Management
- Liaise with external solicitors, regulators, government agencies, property professionals, vendors, and other stakeholders.
- Coordinate legal instructions and follow up on matters assigned to external counsel.
- Monitor the progress of legal and property-related matters and provide timely updates to management.
- Support negotiations with relevant stakeholders to protect the organization's interests.
Records & Reporting
- Maintain accurate and confidential legal, corporate, contractual, and property records.
- Develop periodic reports on outstanding legal matters, contracts, leases, property issues, and compliance activities.
- Ensure timely renewal and review of critical agreements and property documentation.
- Support internal and external audits by providing required legal and property documentation.
Requirements
Education
- Bachelor's Degree in Law (LL.B).
- Candidate must be called to the Nigerian Bar.
- Additional qualification in Corporate Law, Property Law, Company Secretarial Practice, or a related field is an advantage.
Experience
- Minimum of 5 years of relevant professional experience in legal advisory, corporate law, property management, company secretarial functions, or a related role.
- Experience within insurance, financial services, banking, real estate, or a regulated corporate environment is an advantage.
- Demonstrable experience in contract review, negotiation, property documentation, leases, and corporate legal matters.
- Experience liaising with external solicitors, regulators, government agencies, and other stakeholders.
