Role Summary
Our client is seeking a detail-oriented and analytical Underwriting Analyst to support the assessment and evaluation of insurance risks. The role will assist in reviewing applications, analyzing risk information, preparing underwriting recommendations, and ensuring that business written aligns with the organization's underwriting guidelines and risk appetite.
Key Responsibilities
Risk Assessment & Analysis
- Review insurance applications, proposals, and supporting documentation to assess risk exposure.
- Analyze client, financial, operational, and risk-related information to support underwriting decisions.
- Identify potential risk factors and escalate complex or unusual risks to senior underwriters.
- Support the evaluation of appropriate terms, conditions, limits, and pricing.
- Prepare underwriting summaries and recommendations for review and approval.
- Ensure proposed risks comply with established underwriting guidelines and authority limits.
- Review existing policies and support renewal assessments.
- Assist with portfolio reviews and identification of emerging risk trends.
- Ensure underwriting files contain accurate and complete documentation.
- Review policy information for accuracy and consistency with approved terms.
- Coordinate with relevant teams to resolve documentation gaps and discrepancies.
- Maintain accurate underwriting records and databases.
- Work closely with Underwriting, Claims, Reinsurance, Finance, Sales, and Operations teams.
- Provide underwriting information and clarification to internal stakeholders.
- Support the preparation of quotations and client-related documentation where required.
- Participate in portfolio and risk review meetings.
- Prepare periodic underwriting reports and portfolio analysis.
- Monitor key underwriting indicators and highlight areas requiring management attention.
- Ensure underwriting activities comply with internal policies, regulatory requirements, and approved risk parameters.
- Insurance, Actuarial Science, Finance, Economics, Accounting, Business Administration Or a related discipline.
- Professional qualification such as CIIN or progress toward an insurance-related professional certification is an added advantage.
Experience
- Minimum of 3–5 years of relevant experience in underwriting, insurance operations, risk assessment, or a related insurance function.
- Practical understanding of insurance underwriting principles and risk evaluation.
- Experience reviewing insurance proposals, policy documentation, and risk information.
- Good understanding of insurance products and underwriting procedures.
- Experience within the Nigerian insurance industry is preferred.
