Role Summary
Our client is seeking a qualified and commercially minded Accountant to oversee the financial accounting and reporting activities of the business.
The successful candidate will be responsible for maintaining accurate financial records, monitoring revenue and expenses, managing reconciliations, supporting budgeting and cash-flow management, and providing management with timely financial information to support business decisions.
The ideal candidate should have strong experience within the hospitality, restaurant, retail, or other high-volume consumer-facing environments and be capable of working closely with operations and management teams.
Key Responsibilities
Financial Accounting & Reporting
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date accounting records in accordance with applicable accounting standards and company policies.
- Prepare monthly management accounts, financial statements, and periodic financial reports.
- Monitor revenue, expenses, gross margins, operating costs, and overall financial performance.
- Provide management with financial analysis and insights to support operational and strategic decisions.
Cash, Revenue & Reconciliation
- Monitor daily sales, cah collections, POS transactions, bank receipts, and other revenue streams.
- Perform regular bank, cash, POS, supplier, and general ledger reconciliations.
- Investigate discrepancies and ensure timely resolution of financial variances.
- Maintain effective controls over cash handling and revenue collection processes.
Budgeting & Cost Control
- Support the preparation of annual budgets, forecasts, and financial projections.
- Monitor actual performance against budgets and highlight significant variances.
- Track food costs, labour costs, overheads, wastage, and other key restaurant operating expenses.
- Identify opportunities to improve cost efficiency and profitability.
Tax, Compliance & Controls
- Ensure timely preparation of statutory and regulatory financial reports.
- Support tax computation, filing, and compliance requirements.
- Maintain appropriate financial controls and accounting documentation.
- Assist with internal and external audits and provide required financial information.
Inventory & Operational Finance
- Work closely with restaurant operations and procurement teams to monitor inventory, stock movements, purchases, and consumption.
- Review food and beverage costs and investigate unusual variances or wastage.
- Support stock counts and reconciliation of physical inventory against accounting records.
- Provide financial input on pricing, procurement, operational costs, and profitability.
Requirements
Education
- Bachelor's Degree or HND in
- Accounting, Finance, or a related discipline
- Must be a **Chartered Accountant** with ICAN, ACCA, or an equivalent recognized professional qualification.
Experience
- Minimum of 3 years and maximum of 5 years of relevant professional experience
- Experience in accounting within the restaurant, hospitality, food & beverage, retail, or FMCG sector is highly desirable.
- Demonstrated experience in financial reporting, reconciliations, budgeting, cost control, and financial analysis.
- Experience working in a fast-paced, high-volume business environment will be an advantage.
Technical Skills
- Strong knowledge of accounting principles and financial reporting.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and accounting software.
- Experience with POS and revenue reconciliation processes is an advantage.
- Good understanding of inventory and cost accounting
- Knowledge of Nigerian tax and statutory compliance requirements.
