Role Overview

We're looking for a Director of Utility Interconnection to lead the planning and execution of utility interconnections for our solar and storage projects. This person will manage the full interconnection process, work with utilities and regulators, and help guide our technical strategy.

What You'll Do

Interconnection Strategy

  • Lead interconnection planning and applications across multiple states (focus on NY and IL)
  • Ensure projects meet technical and regulatory standards (e.g., IEEE 1547, UL 1741 SB)
  • Review hosting capacity maps and identify viable sites
  • Negotiate with utilities on design, costs, and timelines

Technical Leadership

  • Act as the technical expert for grid integration and interconnection
  • Collaborate with internal teams to optimize project designs and reduce delays
  • Support site layout and equipment planning to reduce costs

Policy & Stakeholder Engagement

  • Monitor policy changes and represent our business in regulatory discussions
  • Advocate for efficient interconnection processes in key markets
  • Engage with trade organizations and utilities to resolve policy barriers

Vendor & Consultant Management

  • Manage external consultants handling interconnection applications and studies
  • Oversee technical vendor selection and incentive-related processes

What You'll Bring

  • 8+ years in interconnection, renewable energy, or energy policy
  • Deep technical knowledge of power systems and interconnection standards
  • Experience working with utilities and regulators (especially in NY and IL)
  • Strong project management and communication skills
  • Bachelors degree in Electrical Engineering or related field (Masters or PE preferred)
