Summary - seeking a highly motivated Director of Alliance Management and Business Development to drive partnerships with large pharmaceutical and CRDMO's Synthetic Biology (SynBio) offering. This role requires excellent access and communication skills to key decision makers in large pharma and biotech, including C-suite level Executives and VPs of Research and Platforms, effective internal and external presentations, and cross-functional collaboration with company's SynBio scientists. In addition to technical proficiency, success in this role also requires exceptional leadership and best-in-class alliance management experience coordinating appropriate scope of work, resources, and budget to meet the needs of pharma sponsors.


About the Role - BD Director will be responsible for identifying new business opportunities and meeting the annual sales plan in SynBio markets, including closing deals with large pharma that require significant investments from the sponsor. This role reports to the Senior Vice President, Business Development.

Responsibilities

  • Manage business development activities by actively prospecting for customers seeking CRDMOs Synthetic Biology services to facilitate research and design of programs in cell and gene therapies.
  • Identify, draft strategic business development plans and scope of work/ proposals for external partners and expand CRDMOs SynBio offering to key accounts especially large pharma.
  • Manage, maintain, and track sales pipeline on CRM. Track opportunities, present sales progress, and share VOC to leadership on a regular basis.
  • Manage incoming sales leads and drive proposal discussions, from executing NDA and MSA, managing client intake, completing RFI/ RFP and proposals, and driving negotiation to closing sales.
  • Be the primary contact with key decision makers to build a long-term strategic partnership with clients.
  • Identify client requirements and address client issues to internal stakeholders and formulate responses to clients to ensure timely revision and communications for best-in-class partnership.
  • Support outreach, marketing and thought leadership to expand CRDMOs reach and impact at conferences and trade shows. Ability to travel up to 50%.
  • Maintain deep knowledge of client programs and sales pipeline to accurately provide forecast of client demands and sales funnel.
  • Meet and exceed annual sales plan.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of Master of Science (M.Sc) degree in Biology, Molecular Biology or Biochemistry. PhD strongly preferred.
  • At least 7 years of field sales or BD experience in advanced therapies, especially in CDMO or CRO.
  • At least 5 years of alliance management to large pharma and biotech.
  • Detail oriented and able to multitask in a dynamic environment with excellent organizational, analytical, and interpersonal skills.
  • Self-starter, attention to detail, and effective prioritization for responding to customer requests and urgency.
