We are seeking an individual with experience in HVAC/R to join our Research and Development team. This is a hands-on product development role that combines conceptual design, prototype fabrication, laboratory testing, product improvement, troubleshooting, and system validation.

The ideal candidate enjoys working in both an office and laboratory environment and is comfortable translating technical concepts into functional, validated systems. Previous experience within the HVAC/R industry including field installation, commissioning, servicing, and troubleshooting of commercial or industrial HVAC/R systems is considered an asset.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conceptual design and development of commercial and industrial HVAC/R systems.
  • Design, build, assemble, and modify prototype HVAC/R systems for product development and improvement.
  • Install sensors, data acquisition systems, and test equipment to evaluate system performance.
  • Review test results and recommend improvements to optimize efficiency, capacity, reliability, and overall system performance.
  • Troubleshoot systems, diagnose mechanical and refrigeration issues, and implement corrective actions.
  • Select mechanical components, including but not limited to compressors, heat exchangers, pumps, valves, blowers, piping, and controls.
  • Prepare drawings, technical documentation, test procedures, and reports.
  • Collaborate with Design, Service, Sales, and Production teams.
  • Support product certification activities including compliance with applicable standards and safety requirements.

Required Technical Qualifications

The successful candidate will have strong knowledge and experience in:

  • Commercial and industrial HVAC/R systems.
  • Psychrometrics, heat transfer, and thermodynamics.
  • Refrigeration cycles and systems.
  • Troubleshooting and problem solving.
  • Interpreting schematics and drawings.

General Qualifications

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications.
  • Ability to safely lift up to 60 lbs.
  • Experience using hand tools and measuring instruments properly.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to meet the physical demands of the role, including lifting, pulling, pushing, kneeling, reaching overhead, standing, and sitting.
  • Valid driver's licence.
  • Willingness and ability to travel within Canada and the United States.
  • Commitment to following workplace health and safety policies and procedures.

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering OR
  • Diploma in Engineering Technology OR
  • Refrigeration Air Conditioning Mechanic Journeyperson
  • Minimum 3 years of experience in HVAC/R industry.
