Prinicpal Electronics Engineer

 Job Description:

My Client is a market leading environmental sensor design & manufacturing company working in a variety of industry sectors, including Naval Defence, Maritime & Marine Science & Technology. We are recruiting for an experienced Principal Electronics Engineer responsible for design and development of electronics for instrumentation and acoustics applications.

Team Leadership

  • Provide support to the Director of Engineering to co-ordinate Electronics Engineering projects and tasks.
  • Provide guidance to staff to ensure the engineering team completes project assignments on time and within budgets.
  • Mentoring and developing Engineering team.
  • Participating in risk assessments and mitigating activities.
  • Providing design reviews and giving technical recommendations.
  • Participating in technical audits and ensuring recommendations are implemented.
  • Developing and providing technical standards and guidance in all software design and development.
  • Provide technical support to Sales and Manufacturing departments.

Skills (essential)

  • Expertise in analogue and digital circuit design preferably in an instrumentation development environment.
  • The work will involve mixed signal design including pre-amplifiers, filters, power supplies, interfacing, and analogue-digital conversion for precision instrumentation applications.
  • Some experience or knowledge of microcontroller-based circuit design and embedded software essential.
  • Some experience or knowledge of FPGA based circuit design is desirable.
  • The candidate will be expected to work independently or as a member of a team contributing to all aspects of the product development cycle from requirement analysis through design & development into production.
  • Candidate would be expected to produce design documentation and test specifications.
  • IPC trained (training can be provided).
  • OrCAD design software or experience with similar tools.

  • Operational Amplifier circuits
  • Power supply technology
  • Circuit analysis, modelling, and theory
  • Analog-Digital Conversion
  • Interfacing and IO (e.g. I2C and SPI bus)
  • CAD Schematic layout
  • CAD PCB design
  • Fault finding
  • Assembler and/or embedded C
  • Use of PAL/FPGA technologies.
  • Linux and other OS

Other Requirements

  • Due to the nature of the role, there will be an occasional need for working outside normal working hours.
  • There will be a need to travel to customer sites on an occasional basis.
  • Candidate would be expected to provide occasional off-shore support as required including some overseas travel.

Qualifications
BSc/BEng or equivalent in Engineering or similar discipline (2:1 or higher).

Security Clearance
The role requires a UK passport holder (not dual nationality) and capable of gaining National Security Vetting SC clearance. 5 years residency in UK is required.
