Job Overview:
Our growing organization is seeking a Level 4 Telecom Installer to provide high-quality installation and assembly of optical transport equipment in technical environments. These include, but are not limited to, data centers, mobile telephone switch centers, and central office wire centers. The ideal candidate must meet all qualifications required for Level 4 installers and have experience adhering to RBOC standards. While this position is based in the McAllen, Texas area, the candidate will be required to travel frequently throughout Texas.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Oversee various types of optical transport projects and serve as the lead.
Understand and interpret detailed specifications, drawings, blueprints, schematics, and methods of procedures (MOP).
Manage inventory and ensure the proper handling of tools, materials, and equipment.
Install frames and racks, create cable paths, and set up fiber troughs and both horizontal and vertical pathways for fiber optic cable management systems, in accordance with design documentation.
Build iron and ladder racks as needed.
Run DC power cables, fiber cables, CAT6 cables, and alarm cables.
Perform lacing, stitching, and sewing of cables.
Terminate DC power, rectifiers, power distribution units (PDUs), BDFB/BDCBBs, inverters, converters, Raycaps, and associated infrastructure used in optical networks.
Terminate Ethernet and power cables, as well as fiber optic jumpers.
Clean and inspect fiber connectors, and document light levels and other readings using job-specific testing equipment, such as OTDRs, optical power meters, volt meters, and fiber scopes.
Troubleshoot various optical network equipment and power systems.
Test and evaluate systems to determine efficiency, reliability, and compatibility with existing systems.
Communicate effectively with project managers, clients, and team members to ensure project timelines are met.
Provide detailed documentation of work performed and deliver daily status updates.
Complete all necessary paperwork, including daily reports, test results, and as-built drawings.
Supervise and mentor junior-level installers as a Level III or Level IV Installer, ensuring adherence to best practices and safety standards.
Skills and Abilities Required:
Strong technical knowledge of current network products with minimal training needed.
Ability to read and understand technical drawings and documentation.
Demonstrated expertise in all phases of optical network installation.
Experience working with major carriers such as Frontier, AT&T, Verizon, T-Mobile, and Dish Wireless.
Proficiency in installing major OEM equipment, including Ciena 6500, Juniper MX480/960/2020, Cisco NCS1000/2000/4000/8000/10000, Nokia 7250 IXR, Nokia 7360 OLT, Infinera G30 Series, and RAD NIDs.
Understanding of Central Office Installation and Quality Standards as outlined in AT&T TP-76300, AT&T TP-76400, Telcordia GR-1275, or Verizon's IP72202 Core Standards.
Strong customer-facing skills along with effective written and verbal communication abilities.
Proficient in using various computer equipment, such as laptops and tablets, and knowledgeable with different software platforms.
Must be able to adapt to changing environments.
Valid driver's license required.
Physical Requirements
Ability to work outdoors, on ladders, and in confined spaces.
Ability to lift a minimum of 50 lbs.
Ability to stoop, kneel, bend, squat, climb, lift, pull and push.
Ability to work with/around electrical wires and/or ESD products.
Ability to work remotely at construction or installation sites.
Ability to work independently and in a team setting.
Education and Experience Requirements:
A minimum of 5 to 7 years of experience in central office installation or a related field, with advanced knowledge of telecom network infrastructure. Typically, this includes at least 3 years at Level III and 2 to 4 years at Levels I and II.
Experience as a Central Office (CO) Installer is required.
Strong problem-solving skills and a keen attention to detail are essential.
