Position Overview:

The Structural Foreman is responsible for overseeing and managing all structural aspects of a construction project. This role involves coordinating and supervising construction teams to ensure that the structural work, including steelwork, concrete, and frameworks, is completed on time, within budget, and according to safety, quality, and engineering standards. The Structural Foreman acts as the key link between site personnel, engineers, and management, ensuring that structural components meet design specifications and Australian building codes.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Site Supervision and Management:

    • Oversee all on-site structural construction activities, including steel erection, formwork, and concrete works.
    • Lead and manage structural teams, ensuring efficient use of resources and maintaining productivity.
    • Ensure that work is completed according to project specifications, drawings, and engineering plans.
    • Coordinate the day-to-day tasks of tradespeople, subcontractors, and laborers involved in structural work.
  2. Quality Control:

    • Ensure that all structural works meet the highest standards of quality and are compliant with Australian Standards (AS) and building codes.
    • Conduct regular inspections and quality checks on completed structural works, addressing any deficiencies or issues.
    • Work closely with engineers and quality control teams to resolve any structural issues or discrepancies.
  3. Health & Safety Compliance:

    • Implement and enforce site safety procedures, ensuring all personnel adhere to Work Health and Safety (WHS) regulations.
    • Conduct safety audits, risk assessments, and toolbox talks related to structural works.
    • Identify and address potential hazards, ensuring a safe working environment for all on-site workers.
  4. Coordination and Communication:

    • Liaise with project managers, structural engineers, and other key stakeholders to coordinate work schedules and resources.
    • Communicate construction progress, challenges, and updates to the site manager or project team.
    • Ensure timely delivery of structural materials and coordinate the installation of structural components as per the project timeline.
  5. Resource Management:

    • Ensure the efficient allocation and utilization of materials, tools, and machinery for structural works.
    • Manage material requisitions and ensure all necessary materials and equipment are available on-site when needed.
    • Supervise the erection of scaffolding and other temporary structures to support structural works.
  6. Project Reporting:

    • Maintain accurate site records, including daily progress logs, safety reports, and timesheets.
    • Provide regular updates to the project manager on the progress of structural works, highlighting any delays or challenges.
    • Assist in preparing project completion reports, detailing structural aspects of the project.
  7. Problem Solving:

    • Identify and address any construction issues that arise during the structural phase, coordinating with engineers to make necessary adjustments.
    • Resolve conflicts on-site and ensure smooth progression of structural work, minimizing delays.

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Experience: Minimum of 5-7 years of experience in the construction industry, with at least 3-5 years in a structural supervisory or foreman role.
  • Certifications:
    • Construction Induction (White Card) mandatory for working on Australian construction sites.
    • Relevant trade qualification in construction, steelwork, or structural engineering.
    • Additional certifications in WHS, First Aid, or Rigging are advantageous.
  • Technical Skills: Proficiency in reading and interpreting construction blueprints, drawings, and engineering specifications.
  • Drivers License: A valid Australian drivers license is essential.

Work Environment:

  • Physical Requirements: The role requires working outdoors, often in varying weather conditions, and may involve physical tasks such as lifting, climbing, and standing for extended periods.
  • Travel: Travel between sites may be required depending on project locations.
