Position Overview:

The General Site Foreman oversees day-to-day construction operations on-site, ensuring that projects are completed on time, within budget, and according to the required quality and safety standards. They are responsible for managing subcontractors, coordinating tasks, and ensuring smooth execution of the construction plan.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Project Supervision:

    • Oversee daily site activities to ensure project goals are achieved.
    • Monitor the progress of construction works, ensuring compliance with project schedules.
    • Provide direction to tradespeople, contractors, and laborers on-site.
  2. Quality Control:

    • Ensure that all work meets the required specifications, standards, and quality benchmarks.
    • Conduct regular inspections and address any deficiencies in construction quality.
  3. Health and Safety Compliance:

    • Implement and enforce site safety protocols according to Australian Work Health and Safety (WHS) standards.
    • Conduct safety meetings and risk assessments regularly.
    • Identify potential hazards and ensure appropriate measures are taken to mitigate risks.
  4. Coordination and Planning:

    • Coordinate with project managers, engineers, and other stakeholders to ensure smooth workflow.
    • Schedule and allocate resources efficiently, ensuring materials, labor, and equipment are used effectively.
    • Ensure that site operations are carried out as per the construction plans, including any variations or modifications.
  5. Team Management:

    • Lead and manage the on-site team, fostering a productive and positive working environment.
    • Provide on-the-job training and support to workers as needed.
    • Resolve conflicts and maintain open communication between team members and management.
  6. Reporting:

    • Provide regular updates to the project manager on progress, challenges, and any necessary adjustments.
    • Maintain accurate records of daily activities, incidents, and delays.
    • Ensure all paperwork, such as site diaries, timesheets, and safety reports, are completed accurately.

Key Skills and Attributes:

  • Leadership & Teamwork: Strong ability to lead and motivate teams, ensuring clear communication and smooth collaboration on-site.
  • Technical Knowledge: Deep understanding of construction processes, methods, materials, and Australian building codes.
  • Problem Solving: Capable of quickly identifying and resolving issues on-site, ensuring minimal disruption to the project timeline.
  • Attention to Detail: Keen eye for detail to ensure high-quality construction standards.
  • Time Management: Ability to manage multiple tasks and prioritize effectively to meet deadlines.

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Experience: Minimum of 5-7 years in the construction industry, with at least 3 years in a supervisory role.
  • Certifications:
    • Relevant trade qualifications.
    • Construction Induction (White Card) mandatory for working on Australian construction sites.
    • First Aid and CPR certification is advantageous.
    • Additional certifications in WHS and Site Safety Supervisor Training will be highly regarded.
  • Skills: Proficiency in reading blueprints, drawings, and project specifications. Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Drivers License: A valid Australian drivers license is essential.

Work Environment:

  • Physical Requirements: The role involves working in outdoor environments, which may include exposure to varying weather conditions and physically demanding tasks.
  • Travel: May be required to travel to different job sites across regions.
