Job Description for Director of Communications

Summary

The Director of Communications will oversee internal and external communication efforts, ensuring a consistent and mission-focused message across various platforms. The Director of Communications will work closely with ministry leaders to align messaging with the churchs mission and vision, while maintaining an attitude of support for the ministries, rather than regulating them. This role includes managing social media, website content, and print materials, as well as coordinating communication strategies for events and ministry initiatives, all for the purpose of making the message of Jesus known.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Empower ministry leaders by crafting compelling communications to increase engagement with all ministries at Emmaus Church
  • Work in collaboration with ministry leaders so that our internal ministry calendar is effectively communicated with the people of Emmaus Church
  • Establish and maintain brand standards so that all communication aligns with the mission and vision of Emmaus Church
  • Create compelling social media content to further make Jesus known in the community
  • Develop a strategy for creating and regularly publishing effective new media content for both internal and external audiences (video, podcast, social media, graphics, etc.)
  • Maintain the church website through partnership with ministry leaders so that content is up to date and relevant 
  • In collaboration with ministry leaders, steward copywriting processes for church-wide communications (on-stage announcements, church-wide emails, social media posts, etc.)
  • Establish best practices and maintain a communications calendar with details on planned and upcoming communication strategies

Requirements

Preferred Skills

  • Experience with video editing software (Adobe Creative Cloud, Final Cut Pro, etc.)
  • Experience with Buffer, Hootsuite, or other communication scheduling platforms
  • Experience with Google analytics
  • Experience with paid social media campaigns (Meta, Google, etc.)
