Role Overview:

We are seeking a talented Patent Agent with a background in mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, computer science, or a related field to join the Intellectual Property Prosecution team. In this dynamic role, you will collaborate with team members and clients to understand and protect cutting-edge technologies. You will draft and prosecute patent applications, conduct freedom to operate studies, and analyze patents to clear products for market entry. Preferred locations for this position are Boston and Washington, DC.

Responsibilities:

  • Assess scientific literature, patents, and patent application documents in fields such as mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, and computer science.
  • Provide insightful critiques and opinions on scientific data related to inventions.
  • Conduct comprehensive searches for relevant scientific articles, patents, and patent application documents.
  • Perform in-depth analyses comparing inventions with existing discoveries.
  • Identify essential elements, features, or components of inventions.
  • Compose detailed patent applications, including comprehensive backgrounds, descriptions, and clear claims.
  • Draft responses to patent application rejections, providing thorough analyses and persuasive arguments.
  • Conduct clearance studies to clear clients' products with respect to competitor patents.
  • Present ideas, reasoning, and conclusions concisely to colleagues and provide constructive feedback.
  • Work with clients on innovative technologies to secure patent protection and build robust IP portfolios.

Skills and Qualifications:

  • Degree in mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, computer science, or a related field.
  • Strong ability to present scientific concepts, analysis, reasoning, and conclusions to both scientists and non-scientists.
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Proven ability to prioritize competing responsibilities and collaborate effectively in team settings.
