Role Overview:

We are seeking a Technical Advisor or Patent Agent with a Ph.D. in biological sciences to join the Intellectual Property Prosecution team at our client's Boston headquarters. The selected individual will engage in a variety of patent-related activities, primarily focusing on patent prosecution, freedom-to-operate analysis, and due diligence. This role offers an excellent opportunity to work with innovative and cutting-edge biotechnology to secure patent protection and develop IP portfolios.

Responsibilities:

  • Manage patent portfolios and coordinate prosecution with foreign associates in various jurisdictions.
  • Draft office action responses and prosecute patent applications.
  • Collaborate with scientists and inventors to draft patent applications.
  • Assess scientific literature, patents, and patent application documents in various biology fields.
  • Conduct patent-landscape and freedom-to-operate searches and assist with analysis.
  • Work with investors to conduct IP diligence for potential investments.
  • Assist with IP diligence on biotech initial public offerings and other capital markets transactions.
  • Collaborate effectively with team members, working from the office approximately 60% of the time, in accordance with the firm's published guidelines.

Skills and Qualifications:

  • Ph.D. degree in Immunology, Molecular Biology, Biochemistry, or related fields.
  • Patent prosecution experience preferred.
  • Experience drafting patent applications de novo from invention disclosure forms and/or inventor interviews.
  • Strong ability to present scientific concepts, analysis, reasoning, and conclusions to both scientists and non-scientists.
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Proven ability to prioritize competing responsibilities and collaborate effectively in a team setting.
  • Service-oriented mindset.
