Backend PHP Developer, Fintech, Hybrid, Limassol, Cyprus

Emerald Zebra on behalf of our client, a Cyprus registered technology company that develops an AI powered automated gold trading software product for MetaTrader 5, is looking to hire a Backend PHP Developer to be based in Limassol, Cyprus. The company works with regulated broker infrastructure to provide automated trading functionality and risk management tools, and this role sits within the core product engineering team.

Location: Limassol, Cyprus. Hybrid working from the Limassol office.

Engagement: Full time, as an employee or independent contractor depending on your location and applicable law.

Role Overview

You will design, build and maintain the server side logic powering the company's web and mobile platform. You will develop high performance RESTful APIs, manage database architecture and ensure seamless data exchange between the server and the frontend clients, working closely with the frontend and DevOps engineers to deliver secure, scalable and reliable cloud hosted services.

Key Responsibilities

• Design, build and secure high performance, scalable RESTful APIs for React Native and PWA frontends.
• Write clean, maintainable PHP code following modern OOP practices and architectural patterns.
• Structure, optimise and maintain relational databases with efficient query performance and data integrity.
• Integrate backend services with third party APIs, payment gateways and external web services.
• Implement data protection, authentication (OAuth, JWT) and authorisation protocols while optimising for performance.
• Write automated unit and integration tests to ensure stability and prevent regressions.

Required Skills and Experience

• 3+ years of professional backend development using modern PHP (PHP 8.x or later).
• Strong hands on experience with the Slim or Symfony frameworks.
• Deep knowledge of MySQL or PostgreSQL, including complex queries, indexing and schema design.
• Proven track record building and documenting RESTful endpoints, including authentication, pagination and error handling.
• Proficiency with Git, Composer and package management tools.

Desirable

• Experience with Redis, Memcached or RabbitMQ.
• Basic understanding of AWS environments (EC2, RDS) to collaborate with DevOps.
• Familiarity with Docker for local development and containerised environments.
