About the job Lead Geophysicist
Responsibilities
- Lead and quality-assure seismic interpretation, including structural and stratigraphic interpretation across exploration and development assets.
- Lead the advance geophysical studies including but not limited to, 3D seismic reprocessing, rock physics, spectral decomposition and AI-machine learning interpretation. Demonstrate the value of Information to justify.
- Provide overall technical lead and advise on the geophysical aspect for the team. Provide clear and defensible technical recommendation to management.
- Lead multidisciplinary teams consisting of geologists, geophysicists and reservoir and petroleum engineers on the specific project(s) as mandated by the Subsurface Manager.
- Develop and maintain robust depth conversion models, velocity models and uncertainty envelopes.
- Integrate seismic, well, geological and petrophysical data into coherent subsurface interpretations
- Provide geophysical input to well planning, well placement and drilling risk assessment.
- Identify and mature prospects and leads, including volumetric input, risking and uncertainty assessment
- Contribute to reserves and resources estimation in accordance with SPE-PRMS guidelines.
- Support farm-in / farm-out, M&A and subsurface due diligence activities when required.
- Work closely with geologist, reservoir engineers, petrophysicist to deliver integrated subsurface models and technical evaluation.
- Translate geophysical uncertainty into business-relevant risk and value implication
- Participate in peer-reviews, technical assurance sessions. Serve as member of Technical Review Committee (TRC) for overall COMPANY group as required by the Technical Director.
- Mentor and coach junior geophysicists, building internal technical capability.
- Promote fit-for-purpose technology adoption aligned with company scale and objective
- Liaise with the management team and other technical and commercial professionals to support and optimise work programmes
- Liaise closely drilling departments to ensure clarity on planning, achieving subsurface target objective while addressing any drilling operation risks
- Ensure adherence to health and safety standards in conformance with COMPANY's policies and procedures.
- In the event of an emergency, carry out such duties as identified in the Emergency Response Procedures or as directed by the Malaysian General Manager.
Requirement
- Relevant petroleum engineering or geoscience degree(s)
- Industrial experience at least 15 years in a multi-discipline team. Experience in managing small team is an advantage
- Thorough practical understanding of reservoir engineering, geology and geophysics and application of these technical disciplines and full field reviews and redevelopments including application of enhanced oil recovery techniques where applicable
- Experience with a regulated NOC environment. Relationship skills for engagement with NOCs, JV Partners and multiple-company project teams.
- Extensive subsurface experience with an oil and gas operator preferably with both major and independent oil companies in an international environment
- Extensive experience and understanding of development geology and geophysics, production/reservoir engineering and offshore operations in both mature and green field development.
- International experience with experience working with different cultures in overseas geographies
- Good understanding of economics and economic modelling, uncertainty analysis and Value of Information.
- Reserve assessment and management and reserve reporting experience
- A general understanding of HSE processes in an oil and gas environment
- Advanced knowledge and experience in seismic interpretation and related geophysical workflow and technical approach.
- Demonstrable work experience with multiple disciplines. Have reasonable understanding across overall subsurface fraternity (geology, petrophysics and reservoir engineering)
- Significant work experience with industry standard modelling packages, preferably Petrel for geophysics. Some experiences and awareness on other packages used by other disciplines such as Eclipse100/tNavigator, PETEX suite, Kappa well testing software.
- Production engineering knowledge.
- Malaysian experience, some of which would preferably have been gained with an Operator.
- Experiences on prospect/lead evaluation. Able to assess overall petroleum system and geological risk in exploration opportunities
- Extensive International experience, preferably with an operator.
- Team lead experience in a multi-discipline team.
- Able to demonstrate continuing personal and professional development.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Strong computer skills including, applicable G&G software, word processing, presentation software and spreadsheets.
