Overview:

  • The Drilling Supervisor (Workover Units) is responsible for overseeing and managing workover operations on oil and gas wells to ensure that they are carried out safely, efficiently, and within budget. This role involves supervising workover rigs, ensuring compliance with industry standards, and coordinating with various stakeholders, including the rig crew, contractors, and service companies, to maintain optimal performance during well intervention activities.

Scope of Works:

  • Supervision & Leadership: Lead and manage all aspects of workover rig operations, including the rig crew, contractors, and service personnel.
  • Workover Operations: Oversee workover activities such as well servicing, completions, wellbore interventions, production enhancements, and plugging & abandonment operations.
  • Safety & Compliance: Ensure all operations comply with HSE regulations, company policies, and industry standards. Actively promote and enforce a strong safety culture.
  • Technical Oversight: Monitor well conditions, rig equipment performance, and progress during workover activities. Implement solutions for operational challenges such as stuck pipe, lost circulation, and equipment failures.
  • Operational Planning: Collaborate with engineers and operations teams to develop workover programs, plans, and contingencies. Provide technical input during the planning stages to optimize well intervention.
  • Cost Management: Manage daily operations within budget, minimizing downtime and cost overruns. Maintain accurate daily cost reports and operational logs.
  • Rig Mobilization & Demobilization: Supervise rig-up and rig-down operations to ensure that equipment is moved and assembled safely and efficiently.
  • Problem-Solving & Decision-Making: Make timely decisions on-site to address operational challenges and unforeseen circumstances while minimizing downtime and risk.
  • Contractor Coordination: Liaise with third-party service companies to ensure all equipment, tools, and services are available and functioning properly during operations.
  • Documentation & Reporting: Prepare and submit daily reports detailing workover progress, equipment performance, safety incidents, and cost expenditures. Ensure accurate well records are maintained.
  • Training & Mentorship: Provide guidance and training to junior team members and rig crew to ensure operational excellence and skill development.

Minimum Qualification:

  • Experience:
    • Minimum of 10 years of experience in drilling operations, with at least 5 years specializing in workover units.
    • Extensive knowledge of well interventions, completions, and workover techniques.
    • Prior experience in leading rig crews in well servicing and workover operations.
  • Technical Expertise:
    • Proficiency in well control, well servicing techniques, and downhole tool operation.
    • Strong understanding of workover equipment, including snubbing units, workover rigs, and hydraulic lifting systems.
    • Familiarity with well integrity and wellbore stability concepts.
  • Certifications:
    • IWCF or IADC Well Control Certification (Supervisor level).
    • HSE certifications (e.g., HUET, BOSIET, OSHA).
  • Skills:
    • Excellent leadership and communication skills, with the ability to manage multi-disciplinary teams.
    • Strong problem-solving capabilities and quick decision-making abilities in high-pressure environments.
    • Detail-oriented with strong organizational skills to manage reports, documentation, and operations.
  • Education:
    • Bachelors degree in Petroleum Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related field (preferred).
