About the job General Superintendent – General Contractor | Florida
Locations: Miami, West Palm Beach, or Tampa, Florida
Compensation: Up to $300,000, depending on experience
Elite Executive Solutions is partnering with a leading general contractor to identify an accomplished General Superintendent to oversee field operations for major commercial construction projects across Florida.
This is a senior field leadership position requiring a proven, full-fledged General Superintendent—not someone seeking their first opportunity at this level. The selected professional will lead Superintendents and field teams while maintaining accountability for safety, quality, scheduling, logistics, subcontractor performance, and successful project delivery.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide executive-level field leadership for major commercial construction projects.
- Lead, manage, coach, and develop Superintendents and other field personnel.
- Develop the overall construction plan in collaboration with the Project Executive and Project Manager.
- Direct project planning, coordination, sequencing, logistics, and site utilization.
- Oversee daily jobsite activities and ensure compliance with OSHA requirements and project-specific safety plans.
- Communicate project progress, performance, risks, and field issues to senior project leadership.
- Identify potential challenges early and implement practical, cost-effective solutions.
- Maintain strong relationships with owners, architects, consultants, subcontractors, vendors, and government authorities.
- Establish clear goals and performance expectations for assigned field leaders.
- Hold subcontractors accountable for safety, quality, schedule, productivity, and ethical conduct.
- Promote consistent use of company processes, reporting requirements, and construction technology.
Project Planning and Start-Up
- Lead pre-mobilization planning with the Project Executive and Project Manager.
- Develop project start-up schedules and identify priority procurement requirements.
- Manage preconstruction field activities, including site surveys, logistics, staging, and site-utilization planning.
- Oversee field-office mobilization and ensure jobsites are maintained to established standards.
- Participate in project turnover, mobilization, coordination, owner, and closeout meetings.
- Ensure project documentation remains accurate, current, organized, and accessible.
Scheduling and Project Controls
- Help develop and implement the overall construction schedule.
- Support creation of the project baseline schedule using contract requirements and subcontractor input.
- Identify conditions or activities that could affect project milestones.
- Ensure field operations remain aligned with contractual requirements and client expectations.
- Provide accurate field information for monthly schedule updates.
- Review Superintendent look-ahead schedules and guide short-term planning.
- Ensure schedule expectations are clearly communicated throughout the project team.
- Lead monthly schedule-review meetings.
Field Operations
- Manage all phases of field construction from mobilization through closeout.
- Ensure subcontractors complete required safety meetings and provide all necessary documentation before beginning work.
- Monitor compliance with OSHA regulations, governing requirements, and site-specific safety plans.
- Ensure inspections and material testing are completed, approved, documented, and communicated.
- Verify that materials and products comply with approved submittals and contract documents.
- Manage subcontractor performance against safety, quality, schedule, and productivity expectations.
- Maintain current site-utilization, staging, logistics, and phasing plans.
- Oversee material deliveries, inspections, condition, and verification.
- Lead subcontractor, schedule-review, and field-coordination meetings.
- Attend owner meetings and professionally represent the organization with project stakeholders.
- Ensure daily reports, activity logs, drawing files, safety documentation, and other required records remain current.
- Maintain accurate as-built drawings, drawing logs, and revision logs.
- Assist with RFIs, shop drawings, product data, and other project documentation.
- Ensure addenda, supplemental instructions, and drawing revisions are incorporated into field working documents.
- Assist the Project Manager with subcontractor pay applications, general conditions, and field-related cost management.
- Understand and administer applicable prime contracts and subcontract agreements.
- Help identify and recover legitimate costs associated with owner-directed changes.
- Review field directives and back charges to ensure timely processing.
- Partner with project leadership to resolve personnel issues and improve construction processes.
Required Qualifications
- Must be an established, full-fledged General Superintendent with direct responsibility for major commercial construction projects.
- Significant experience working for a general contractor is required.
- Demonstrated success leading multiple Superintendents and large field teams.
- Minimum of 10 years of construction-industry experience as a Superintendent.
- Proven ability to manage complex projects from preconstruction and mobilization through closeout.
- Strong knowledge of scheduling, site logistics, safety, quality control, contracts, and subcontractor management.
- Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or a related field preferred.
- Experience within the Florida construction market is strongly preferred.
- Ability to work from or support projects associated with the Miami, West Palm Beach, or Tampa markets.
Knowledge and Skills
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office, Primavera P6, Microsoft Project, Bluebeam, and Adobe.
- Ability to develop, review, and interpret detailed construction schedules.
- Ability to read and interpret contracts, drawings, specifications, scopes of work, and project schedules.
- Familiarity with LEED principles.
- Excellent leadership, organizational, and subcontractor-management skills.
- Strong understanding of the relationship among cost, schedule, safety, quality, and field execution.
- Excellent problem-solving, decision-making, and conflict-resolution abilities.
- High level of urgency, initiative, professionalism, and accountability.
