Work Schedule:

Monday-Friday, 9 hours between 6:00am and 6:00pm, with a one-hour lunch

No Call, No Weekends, No Holidays!

The duties include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Coordinate appropriate referrals to community and other Government agencies for services.
  • Independently assess the psychosocial functioning and needs of patients and their family members and formulate and implement a treatment plan, identifying the patient’s problems, strengths, weaknesses, coping skills, and assistance needed, in collaboration with the patient, family and interdisciplinary treatment team.
  • Independently conduct psychosocial assessments and provide psychosocial treatment to a wide variety of individuals from various socio-economic, cultural, ethnic, educational, and other diverse backgrounds.
  • Use medical and mental health diagnoses, disabilities, and treatment procedures. This includes acute, chronic, and traumatic illnesses/injuries, common medications and their effects/side effects, and medical terminology.
  • Implement treatment modalities in working with individuals, families and groups who are experiencing a variety of psychiatric, medical, and social problems to achieve treatment goals.
  • Independently provide counseling and/or psychotherapy services to individuals, groups, couples, and families. Must practice within the bounds of the license or certification.
  • Provide consultation services to other staff about the psychosocial needs of patients and the impact of psychosocial problems on health care and compliance with treatment.
  • Participate in professional peer review case conferences, research studies, or other organizations required at the MTF.
  • Responsible for and apply social work procedures and techniques in the evaluation and treatment of psychological/psychiatric disorders. Activities include, but are not limited to, the following: Responsible for and provide individual, family and group psychotherapy, and couples therapy.
  • Maintain accurate and current notes in the outpatient medical records of all patients seen, as appropriate, and produce reports of evaluation and/or treatment as required.
  • Consults with medical personnel, legal authorities, military commanders, and school districts, as required.
  • Attends and participates in meetings during normal duty hours and professional staff conferences and other appropriate professional activities such as, but not limited to the following: quality improvement meetings, commander's staff meetings, primary care staff meetings, and others required by applicable
    regulations, MTF guidance, or as directed by department leadership.
  • Participates in military specific training and evaluations (e.g., training to perform security clearances, use of the Air Force Guide to Managing Suicidal Behavior, pre-post deployment screening, PTSD, and combat stress) and others as directed by the flight Commander or AF policy.


Integrated Primary Care/Behavioral Health Optimization Duties:

  • Shall apply appropriate psychological procedures and techniques, including interviewing, behavioral assessment, cognitive-behavioral and other empirically supported recommendations to aid Primary Care Managers (PCMs) in the evaluation, diagnosis, and treatment of psychological disorders in the primary
    care setting.
  • Target and evaluate diagnostic impressions and functional status that focus on the presenting problem.
  • Formulate behavioral health interventions appropriate to primary care setting and assist with implementation of treatment plans.
  • Provide timely and succinct feedback to PCMs regarding evaluation findings and recommendations.
  • Provide brief follow-up, including relapse prevention strategies developing, teaching, and/or provide oversight for classes that promote education and skill building to promote psychological and physical health.
  • Consultation services for patients requiring on-going monitoring and follow-up.

Minimum Qualifications:

* Education: Master's degree in Social Work (MSW). Graduate from a School of Social Work fully accredited by the Council on Social Work Education (CSWE).
* Experience: As required to meet clinical competency requirements specified in the Service-specific credentialing instructions. In addition, HCW must possess the ability to independently:

  • Conduct psychosocial assessments and provide psychosocial treatment to a wide variety of individuals from various socio-economic, cultural, ethnic, educational, and other diversified backgrounds.
  • Provide counseling and/or psychotherapy services to individuals, groups, and families.
  • Provide consultation services to other staff about the psychosocial needs of patients and the impact of psychosocial problems on health care and compliance with treatment.
  • Evaluate own practice through participation in a professional peer review case conferences or other organized means.
  • Must possess the knowledge and experience to:
    • Use computer software applications for drafting documents, data management, and tracking, especially those programs in use by DoD.
    • Use of medical and mental health diagnoses, disabilities, and treatment procedures. This includes acute, chronic, and traumatic illness/injuries, common medications and their effects/side effects, and medical terminology.
    • Implement treatment modalities in working with individuals, families and groups who are experiencing a variety of psychiatric, medical, and social problems to achieve treatment goals.
    • Demonstrate a working knowledge of professional standards and ethics regarding the delivery of clinical social work services.
  • HCWs assigned to Mental Health:
    • Have a minimum of 2 years full-time experience (individual and group experience) within the last 3 years performing clinical social work within a mental health setting, (e.g., inpatient or outpatient treatment center or MTF). In addition, CP with at least 1 year experience working with active-duty service members and/or veterans are preferred. CP without the requisite experience "may" be considered on a case-by-case basis if they have documented training/ certification in modalities such as: Cognitive Processing Therapy, (CPT), Prolonged Exposure Therapy (PE), in addition to modalities such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT).

* Licensure; Current, full, active, and unrestricted LCSW license from any state.

* Life Support Certification: Possess and maintain a current AHA or ARC BLS Healthcare Provider certification. Note: May obtain BLS upon acceptance, prior to start date.
* Security: Must possess ability to pass a Government background check/security clearance.
