Vacancy: IT Support Engineer

Location: Walvis Bay, Namibia

A leading company in the logistics and terminal operations industry is seeking an experienced and dedicated IT Support Engineer to join their team. This key position will provide critical support for end-user technologies across both the terminal office and container terminal environments. The ideal candidate will ensure the smooth operation of all IT systems, devices, and platforms to guarantee maximum uptime and efficiency in a fast-paced, 24/7 operational environment.

Key tasks and responsibilities

  • Provide first- and second-line support for a wide range of end-user devices, including desktops, laptops, network printers, mobile phones, tablets, handheld devices, and vehicle-mounted terminals (VMTs).
  • Support and troubleshoot cloud-based tools and platforms such as Microsoft Azure and Office365, ensuring seamless access and performance for all users.
  • Manage and maintain conference and meeting room systems, ensuring that all technology is ready for use for internal and external meetings.
  • Monitor and maintain all end-user devices, ensuring proper configuration, timely updates, and compatibility with enterprise systems (Line-of-business, ERP etc.).
  • Diagnose and resolve hardware and software issues, escalating to relevant teams or vendors when necessary.
  • Assist in the deployment and integration of new IT devices and tools, ensuring they are fully operational and meet user needs.
  • Maintain accurate documentation of IT systems, configurations, and user manuals.
  • Track IT assets and manage inventory to ensure all devices are accounted for and in optimal working condition.
  • Provide training and guidance to end-users on how to make the most of their IT tools and technology solutions.
  • Respond to and resolve IT incidents and service requests promptly to minimize disruption to operations.
  • Work collaboratively with other IT teams, vendors, and management to resolve technical issues and improve system efficiency.
  • Work in a 24/7 operational environment, including shift work, odd hours, and standby duties as required.

Qualifications

  • Bachelors degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related field.
  • IT certifications such as CompTIA A+, Microsoft Certified: Modern Desktop Administrator Associate, or Microsoft Azure Fundamentals or Administrator Associate are a plus.
  • ITIL Foundation Certification or similar is advantageous.

Knowledge and Experience

  • At least 3 to 5 years of experience in IT support, including hands-on experience with end-user technologies and hardware.
  • Experience in supporting Microsoft Office365 and Azure environments.
  • Proficiency in troubleshooting hardware, software, and networking issues.
  • Knowledge of enterprise platforms, such as ERP and line-of-business systems is a plus.
  • Experience supporting video conference systems, network printers, mobile phones, tablets, handheld devices, and vehicle-mounted terminals (VMTs).
  • Previous experience in an industrial or logistics environment is beneficial.

Additional Requirements

  • Must be available to work on shifts, including nights, weekends, and public holidays, as part of a 24/7 operational environment.
  • Ability to work in outdoor environments and varying weather conditions.
  • Willingness to engage in physical tasks such as setting up hardware, cabling, and performing on-site troubleshooting.
  • Comfortable working at heights when required.
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to collaborate effectively with diverse teams.
