Legal Researcher/Assistant

Our client, UtiliSave, is looking for a Legal Researcher/Assistant. 

  • General legal research, including internet-based systems (Lexis-Nexis), Public Service Commission databases and State and Federal Administrative Agency websites
  • Provide legal research assistance to Managing Partner, attorneys, and UtiliSave LLC Auditing team, regarding general energy billing issues, matters involving public and private utilities, and their billing and administrative practices
  • Assist with drafting, reviewing and revising legal briefs, motions and other legal filings
  • Assist in drafting and submitting appeals to governmental agencies such as the New York City Department of Environmental Protection and the New York City Water Board per direction of Managing Partner and the legal team.
  • Assist with managing claims with the New York Public Service Commission and similar regulatory bodies in other states from inception to final disposition of the claim.
  • Assist with researching cases, rules and regulations in order support the litigation efforts of the firm
  • Research issues to determine whether there are savings opportunities for clients, and opportunities for litigation as directed by Managing Partner
  • Increase internal knowledge of industry developments and potential litigation opportunities by providing memoranda of pertinent matters to Managing Partner.
  • Assist and take action on various projects, as assigned by the Managing Partner.
  • Assist with the drafting, and submission of appeals to governmental agencies such as the New York City Department of Environmental Protection and the New York City Water Board per direction of Managing Partner.
  • Assist with managing claims with the New York Public Service Commission and similar regulatory bodies in other states from inception to final disposition of the claim.
  • Research cases, rules and regulations in order determine whether there are savings opportunities for UtiliSave LLC clients, as directed by Managing Partner. Facilitate the advancement of billing adjustments by interacting with public utilities, and government agencies, while working collaboratively with the UtiliSave LLC Auditing Department, Legal Department and Managing Partner.

Requirements:

· Bachelors Degree; current admission to a U.S. law school a plus

· Team player

· Strong research experience; prior legal research experience a plus

· Interest and/or experience in public utility/energy/surrounding issues

· Business savvy, financial acumen, and risk sensitivity required

· Excellent communication skill (both written and oral) with demonstrated people skills

· Excellent analytical and writing skills and an ability to effectively communicate in writing to senior

members of the legal team and clients, when required

· Excellent organizational skills and ability to multi-task.

· Ability to problem solve and arrange workload in order of importance to meet deadlines.

· Ability to work effectively within a team and independently, as workflow dictates.

· Advanced Microsoft Word skills (briefing with TOA and TOC).

· Advanced Excel and Powerpoint; using Powerpoint to create presentations a plus

· Proficiency with .pdf Docs, Microsoft Outlook.

· Ability to learn and effectively apply new software as required, especially Case Management Software.

· Ability to maintain reliable attendance record and punctuality.

· Ability to meet Firm client service standards by maintaining a positive and professional attitude as well as communicate effectively with all levels of the organization as well as external clients, vendors, the general public, attorneys and court personnel as required.

· Exhibit a desire to team with support staff, peers, attorneys and administrators by demonstrating willingness to undertake additional responsibilities, teach and assist others when requested.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $18.00 - $25.00 per hour

Expected hours: 40 per week
