We are seeking a detail-oriented and organized Payroll Clerk to join our team on a full-time contract basis. The Payroll Clerk will support the accurate and timely processing of employee payroll, maintain payroll records, and assist with payroll-related inquiries and administrative activities. The ideal candidate will have strong numerical skills, excellent attention to detail, and the ability to handle confidential payroll information with professionalism.
Key Responsibilities
- Process and verify employee payroll information, including hours worked, overtime, bonuses, deductions, and other adjustments.
- Review timesheets, attendance records, and payroll documentation for accuracy and completeness.
- Enter and maintain employee payroll data in payroll and HR systems.
- Assist with the preparation and processing of regular payroll cycles in accordance with established deadlines.
- Calculate and verify wages, deductions, taxes, benefits, and other payroll-related adjustments.
- Research and resolve payroll discrepancies and employee inquiries in a timely manner.
- Maintain accurate and confidential payroll records and documentation.
- Assist with payroll reconciliations and verify payroll reports against financial and employee records.
- Support the processing of new hires, employee changes, terminations, and other payroll updates.
- Coordinate with Human Resources, Finance, and other departments to resolve payroll and employee record issues.
- Assist with year-end payroll activities, including preparation of required reports and employee tax documents.
- Ensure payroll activities are completed in accordance with company policies and applicable federal, state, and local requirements.
- Maintain organized payroll files and supporting documentation for audits and internal reviews.
- Assist with payroll system updates, testing, and process improvements.
- Protect sensitive employee information and maintain strict confidentiality at all times.
- Prepare routine payroll reports and provide administrative support to the payroll or accounting team.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent required; associate degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field is preferred.
- 1–3 years of experience in payroll, accounting, bookkeeping, finance administration, or a related field.
- Basic understanding of payroll processing, wage calculations, deductions, and payroll taxes.
- Strong numerical and analytical skills with excellent attention to detail.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and other Microsoft Office applications.
- Experience with payroll software, HRIS platforms, or accounting systems is preferred.
- Strong organizational and time-management skills.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality when handling sensitive employee and financial information.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to identify discrepancies, research issues, and resolve problems accurately.
- Ability to manage recurring deadlines and multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
- Payroll certification or related accounting coursework is a plus.
Compensation & Contract Benefits
Annual Contract Rate: $45,000 – $60,000 per year, commensurate with experience, qualifications, and responsibilities.
Schedule: Full-time contract, approximately 40 hours per week, Monday through Friday.
Contract Duration: Initial contract assignment with potential for extension or renewal based on business needs and performance.
