Job Summary: We are seeking a skilled and experienced Civil Engineer to join our underground utilities company. The ideal candidate will have expertise in underground utility design and construction, with specific experience in tapping and line stopping techniques. Proficiency in AutoCAD and working knowledge of water distribution systems, pipe materials, and wastewater treatment plants are a plus. Candidates with experience in wastewater treatment plant design and operation will be given preference.

Responsibilities:

  1. Utility Design and Planning: Design and plan underground utility projects, including water distribution systems, sewer systems, stormwater drainage, and other related infrastructure.
  2. Tapping and Line Stopping: Utilize advanced tapping and line stopping techniques to repair, modify, or extend existing underground utilities while minimizing service disruptions and maintaining system integrity.
  3. AutoCAD Design: Use AutoCAD software to create detailed engineering drawings, schematics, and plans for underground utility projects, ensuring accuracy and compliance with regulatory standards.
  4. Material Selection: Select appropriate pipe materials and construction methods based on project specifications, site conditions, and budgetary constraints, with a focus on durability, longevity, and sustainability.
  5. Project Management: Oversee all phases of underground utility projects, from initial concept and design to construction, testing, and commissioning, ensuring adherence to project schedules, budgets, and quality standards.
  6. Regulatory Compliance: Ensure that all underground utility projects comply with relevant codes, regulations, and industry standards, including environmental regulations and safety protocols.
  7. Quality Assurance/Quality Control (QA/QC): Implement QA/QC measures to monitor and evaluate the quality and performance of underground utility installations, identifying and addressing any deviations or deficiencies.
  8. Collaboration: Collaborate with internal teams, including engineers, designers, project managers, and field staff, as well as external stakeholders such as regulatory agencies, contractors, and clients, to ensure project success.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or related field.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license preferred.
  • Minimum of 1 year of experience in civil engineering, with a focus on underground utilities.
  • Proven experience with tapping and line stopping techniques in underground utility systems.
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD or similar computer-aided design (CAD) software.
  • Strong knowledge of water distribution systems, sewer systems, stormwater management, and related infrastructure.
  • Familiarity with a variety of pipe materials, including PVC, ductile iron, HDPE, and others.
  • Experience with wastewater treatment plant design and operation is a plus.
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong organizational and project management skills.

Work Environment:

The Civil Engineer will primarily work in an office environment but may also visit project sites as needed for inspections, meetings, or fieldwork. The position may require occasional travel to client sites, regulatory agencies, or industry events.
