About the Role

This is a prestigious and challenging opportunity for a highly experienced Head Gardener to manage the exquisitely appointed private gardens of the Presidential Palaces. These magnificent grounds were recently redesigned by a world-renowned landscape architect and require a meticulous approach to maintain their splendor.

The successful candidate will be a horticultural expert with a proven track record of leading and inspiring gardening teams.

Key Responsibilities

  1. Provide strategic leadership and direction to the gardening team, ensuring the highest standards of horticultural practice and efficient service delivery. Motivate and inspire staff to achieve exceptional results, fostering a positive and productive work environment.
  2. Oversee all aspects of garden maintenance and development across ornamental gardens, productive gardens, greenhouses, and the wider landscape. Develop and implement comprehensive seasonal work plans aligned with best practices and sustainability principles.
  3. Ensure gardens are consistently maintained to an immaculate standard, exceeding the expectations of the Palace owners and directors. Implement and enforce health and safety regulations to guarantee a secure working environment for staff.
  4. Manage and oversee seasonal gardening projects and temporary staff. Collaborate effectively with departmental managers, staff members, and external contractors to ensure seamless project execution.
  5. Possess a deep understanding of all aspects of plant propagation, cultivation, pruning, pest and disease control, and organic kitchen gardening practices. Demonstrate proficiency in operating various garden machinery.

Essential Qualifications

  • Formal horticultural qualification
  • Minimum of two years' experience managing gardens in tropical or Mediterranean climates
  • Proven track record of leading and motivating horticultural teams
  • In-depth knowledge of plant identification, cultivation techniques, and pest management
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to build strong relationships with staff and stakeholders
  • Commitment to exceeding expectations and maintaining a professional image
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Flexibility and willingness to work occasional weekends
