About the job Stormwater Design Engineer
Position: Stormwater Design Engineer
Salary Range: $80,000 - $95,000
Are you passionate about designing sustainable solutions for land development projects? We are seeking a talented Stormwater Design Engineer who thrives on tackling complex drainage challenges and delivering innovative, high-quality designs. If you have a strong foundation in hydrology and hydraulics, and enjoy mentoring others while leading critical project components, this opportunity is tailor-made for you.
What Youll Do:
- Drainage Design: Take the lead in conducting detailed drainage analyses for land development projects. This includes performing runoff and routing calculations, designing storm sewer systems and inlets, grading detention ponds, and working on channel remediation and analysis. Your work will culminate in the creation of comprehensive drainage reports, often running hundreds of pages.
- Technical Leadership: Collaborate closely with the Team Design Lead to delegate and manage drainage-related tasks. Youll provide guidance and training to junior team members, ensuring the accuracy and quality of their work.
- Hydrologic & Hydraulic Expertise: Apply your knowledge of intermediate hydrologic and hydraulic (H&H) principles to design stormwater systems, including basin routing, open channel capacity calculations, and detention pond structures.
- Project Support: Prepare drainage studies, reports, and detailed maps as part of construction drawings for land development and municipal projects. Youll also review project designs to ensure they meet local jurisdictional criteria.
- Team Collaboration: Foster open communication with all team members, sharing your expertise and ensuring the successful delivery of each project.
What You Bring:
- Educational Background: A Bachelors degree in Civil Engineering, Environmental Engineering, or a related field is preferred.
- Experience & Skills:
- Proven experience in hydrologic and hydraulic analyses, detention design, and stormwater management.
- Hands-on experience with land development projects, including the preparation of Storm Water Management Plans (SWMP) and grading and drainage designs.
- Proficiency in key H&H software such as HY-8, FlowMaster, StormCAD/SewerGems, and XPStorm.
- Strong technical writing skills, especially in preparing detailed reports and documentation.
- Excellent interpersonal skills to effectively communicate and collaborate with both internal teams and external stakeholders.
- Additional Qualifications (A Plus):
- Experience working with municipalities and jurisdictions along the Front Range of Colorado, including the Mile High Flood District.
- Familiarity with FEMA Letters of Map Change, floodplain fill mitigation plans, and advanced dynamic modeling techniques using SWMM, unsteady flow, and 2D HEC-RAS.
- Proficiency in HEC-RAS, GeoHECRAS, and ArcGIS software.
If youre ready to make a significant impact in the world of stormwater design and lead meaningful projects, wed love to hear from you. Join us in creating sustainable, effective drainage solutions that shape the future of land development.
