About the job Manager Grassroots Exploration
The Exploration Manager - Greenfield will lead the strategic planning, execution, and management of grassroots exploration activities for a leading mining company operating in Africa. With a strong focus on gold and copper, this role involves developing and implementing exploration programs, identifying high-potential targets, and advancing discoveries to resource definition. The Director will report directly to the SVP and play a critical role in shaping the company's long-term growth pipeline.
Key Responsibilities
Strategic Leadership:
- Develop and execute a comprehensive greenfield exploration strategy aligned with the company's growth objectives.
- Identify and prioritize prospective areas for gold and copper discovery through innovative geological concepts and rigorous data analysis.
Project Management:
- Oversee multiple exploration programs across diverse terrains in Africa, ensuring safety, efficiency, and adherence to budgetary constraints.
- Ensure timely and accurate reporting of exploration results to senior management, stakeholders, and regulatory authorities.
Technical Excellence:
- Lead a team of geologists, geophysicists, and technical staff to implement cutting-edge exploration techniques and technologies.
- Evaluate geological, geochemical, and geophysical data to refine targeting models and enhance discovery success rates.
Stakeholder & Team Engagement:
- Collaborate with local communities, government agencies, and other stakeholders to ensure ethical, socially responsible, and sustainable exploration practices.
- Represent the company at industry conferences, government briefings, and stakeholder meetings to build partnerships and enhance reputation.
- Recruit, mentor, and develop a high-performing exploration team with a strong focus on knowledge sharing and capacity building.
- Foster a culture of safety, innovation, and accountability within the exploration team.
Qualifications & Experience
- Bachelors degree in Geology, Geophysics, or a related field. A Masters or Ph.D. in Economic Geology or Mineral Exploration is highly desirable.
- Minimum of 15 years of exploration experience, with at least 5 years in a senior leadership role.
- Proven track record of grassroots exploration success, particularly in gold and copper deposits.
- Experience in Africa or similar challenging environments is essential.
- Expertise in structural geology, geochemistry, and geophysics applied to mineral exploration.
- Strong leadership and project management capabilities.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage effectively with diverse stakeholders.
- Proficiency in exploration software and remote sensing tools.
