Overview:
We are seeking a highly experienced Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) Manager to lead and oversee all health and safety aspects of a large-scale underground mining operation. The ideal candidate will possess extensive experience in the mining industry, including managing health and safety within complex operational environments. This role demands strong leadership, strategic planning skills, and a proven track record of implementing and maintaining robust safety systems.
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop and implement comprehensive OHS strategies aligned with operational objectives.
- Lead a multidisciplinary safety team to ensure adherence to safety policies, procedures, and regulations.
- Act as a safety ambassador, fostering a culture of safety excellence across the operation.
- Conduct risk assessments and hazard identification for underground mining activities.
- Implement effective controls and action plans to mitigate safety risks.
- Ensure compliance with international and local safety standards and legislation.
- Provide mentorship and training to site teams to enhance safety awareness and operational discipline.
- Develop and deliver tailored safety programs to improve workforce competency and compliance.
- Lead investigations of incidents and near-misses to identify root causes and implement corrective actions.
- Maintain accurate records and prepare detailed reports for internal and regulatory purposes.
- Monitor and analyze safety performance metrics to identify areas for improvement.
- Drive initiatives to enhance safety systems, reduce incidents, and promote best practices.
- Extensive experience in OHS management within large-scale mining operations, with a strong focus on underground environments.
- Proven track record in managing safety in complex, high-risk settings, preferably as an expatriate in international locations.
- Comprehensive knowledge of mining operations, equipment, and safety standards.
- Strong leadership and team management skills, with the ability to influence and inspire a diverse workforce.
- Excellent planning, organizational, and decision-making abilities.
- Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills to engage effectively with all levels of an organization.
- Relevant qualifications in Occupational Health and Safety or a related field.
