Staff Senior Engineer - San Francisco, CA - $225K-$300K

Location: San Francisco, CA (in-person, 5 days a week)

Compensation: $225,000 - $300,000 per year

What You'll Own

- Own the technical architecture: agent orchestration, process mining infrastructure, diagnostic pipelines, and the control plane that turns audit outputs into deployed AI systems

- Architect compound AI systems running inside large enterprise environments: multi-step agents, retrieval pipelines, evaluation frameworks, human-in-the-loop governance

- Set the engineering pace, shipping to production weekly rather than quarterly

- Recruit, mentor, and lead engineers, setting code review standards and building a team that scales

- Bridge research and production, staying current on foundation models, agent frameworks, and inference optimization, and translating what's useful into production systems

What You'll Bring

- A strong signal of exceptional technical ability, with company quality and demonstrated output mattering more than years of experience alone

- Experience building and shipping systems at a top AI lab, or as a founding or senior engineer at a high-signal AI-native startup

- Deep production AI/ML systems experience across the full stack: inference, orchestration, evaluation, and monitoring

- Strong systems design instincts, architecting for reliability, scale, and iteration speed at the same time

- High agency, strong recruiting instincts, and a sense of ownership over outcomes, not just code

- Based in San Francisco or willing to relocate, working in person 5 days a week

Nice to Have

- Experience with agent systems, compound AI workflows, or LLM-powered applications in production

- Background in process mining, workflow automation, or enterprise integration

- Infrastructure depth such as Kubernetes, distributed systems, or cloud architecture

- Previous founding engineer or CTO experience at a venture-backed startup

- Published research or significant open-source contributions in AI/ML

This role has a direct path to CTO, with founding-level scope and ownership over the entire technical vision of a fast-growing company already working with Fortune 5000 clients.
