Role Overview

A healthcare organization in Las Cruces, New Mexico is seeking an experienced Director of Risk Management to lead hospital-wide risk management, compliance, and ethics operations. This senior leadership position reports directly to the Chief Executive Officer and plays a critical role in overseeing risk mitigation, litigation coordination, compliance initiatives, and operational process improvements across the facility and affiliated clinics.

This opportunity is ideal for healthcare leaders with strong risk management experience, clinical backgrounds, and the ability to collaborate effectively across hospital leadership, providers, legal teams, and regulatory agencies.

Key Responsibilities

Risk Management & Compliance

Lead and coordinate the organization's overall risk management program

Develop and implement risk identification, mitigation, and avoidance strategies

Oversee incident reporting and risk tracking systems

Support hospital-wide compliance and ethics initiatives

Serve as Compliance and Ethics Officer for the facility

Recommend and implement operational and process improvements

Litigation & Investigations

Manage evolving needs related to active litigation matters

Conduct investigations and staff interviews

Coordinate depositions and legal documentation processes

Gather legal hold records and supporting materials

Collaborate with legal counsel and internal leadership teams

Ensure proper documentation and compliance throughout investigations

Leadership & Collaboration

Partner with executive leadership, providers, and hospital staff

Train leaders and employees on risk management protocols and compliance procedures

Facilitate communication across departments and affiliated clinics

Build strong relationships with providers and regulatory agencies

Support strategic operational initiatives related to patient safety and risk reduction

Requirements

Current or eligible New Mexico RN License required

Bachelor's Degree in Nursing required

Minimum 5 years of healthcare experience required

Minimum 3 years of leadership experience OR equivalent acute healthcare risk management experience

Strong leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills

DEA license eligibility required

Ability to work onsite in Las Cruces, NM

Preferred Qualifications

MSN, MBA, or Healthcare Administration degree

Ethics and compliance program experience

Root Cause Analysis (RCA) and process improvement experience

Experience managing investigations and legal processes

Experience interacting with regulatory agencies including CMS, DEA, or Board of Pharmacy

For-profit hospital experience strongly preferred
