About the job Estimator

Qualifications

  • Associate's degree (A.A.) or equivalent from a two-year college or technical school; or six months to one year of related experience and/or training; or an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Experience with computer-aided drafting, V6 estimating software, and Microsoft Office is important
  • Ability to read blueprints is required
  • Strong commitment to safety

Responsibilities

  • Analyze blueprints, specifications, proposals, and other documents to prepare accurate estimates for products, projects, or services
  • Review architectural plans and specifications for the scope of work
  • Verify performance and structural requirements with the application engineer as needed
  • Prepare material take-offs for accurate pricing
  • Develop the Scope of Work to accompany customer quotations
  • Obtain vendor quotations for external items
  • Prepare detailed estimates for bids using cost data and/or price lists
  • Compute cost factors for use in planning, organizing, scheduling, bidding, vendor selection, and determining cost efficiency
  • Recommend improvements to cost-estimating procedures to reduce future discrepancies
