The role of Electronics Engineer is of strategic importance, making a significant contribution in the design and development of both new and current devices and the technology within them.

The Smart Technology Team is responsible for the development of Electronics, Firmware, App and Cloud technologies and offers an exciting opportunity to get involved in all aspects of the design process across multiple disciplines. As part of the team you will be working directly alongside the Senior Electronics and Firmware Engineers.

Main Duties/Responsibilities

• Development of electronics, firmware and embedded systems used within a range of control devices. This role calls for a hardware / software (firmware) mix and would suit someone with at least 3 years experience in this type of role.
• Development of electronics and firmware for new products, from conception to production
• Produce and manage schematic drawings, PCB layouts, BOMs and FAB drawings using Altium Designer
• Produce technical specification documents including flow charts (Word, Excel and Power Point)
• Fault find and diagnose issues with existing / current products and propose suitable solutions
• Participate in the new product development process
• Participate in component and development tool selection
• Work with external sub-contractors when necessary
• Provide electronics and firmware design guidance and advice to the wider team Lead and participate in design reviews / critiques
• Project manage workload

Person Specifications/Experience

• Proven track record in Electronics and Firmware development (at least 3 Years experience)
• Suitable qualification to degree level (2:1 or above) from a recognised University or equivalent experience.
• Schematic design, PCB layouts and component library management using Altium Designer
• Good working knowledge of creating embedded firmware for 32 bit applications using C / C++
• Excellent experience in hardware and electro-mechanical design for small to medium volume manufacture.
• Good working knowledge of electronics and systems integration.
• Experience of working in a high performance and fast paced environment.
• Regular dealings with senior management and ability to manage their expectations.

Skills

• Altium Designer
• Good knowledge C / C++ programming language and programming techniques
• Good knowledge of real time operating systems (Free RTOS) on embedded platforms

Desirable Skills

• Experience of EspressIF ESP 32
• Experience of communication protocols including I2C, RS232, RS485, MQTT
• Experience of design for WiFi and Bluetooth
