About the job Chief Financial Officer
Our client, a Private Equity backed payments company serving merchants across the United States and Canada, is seeking a Chief Financial Officer to support its next stage of growth. The role is suited for a finance leader with deep payments experience and a strong understanding of the financial complexity of merchant acquiring.
What You Will Do
- Lead the finance and accounting function for a private equity-backed payments company.
- Partner with the CEO, private equity sponsor, and executive leadership team on financial strategy, business planning, and company performance.
- Build stronger financial reporting, forecasting, budgeting, and board reporting processes.
- Provide clear visibility into processing volume, merchant performance, revenue streams, residuals, costs, margins, and portfolio trends.
- Improve financial discipline across merchant acquiring, ISV partnerships, sponsor bank relationships, and ancillary payment solutions.
- Strengthen finance systems, controls, processes, and reporting as the company scales.
- Support investor reporting, board communication, lender relationships, and private equity ownership requirements.
- Partner across sales, product, risk, underwriting, operations, and technology to improve visibility into business performance.
- Help evaluate growth opportunities, new products, partnerships, geographic expansion, and potential acquisitions.
- Lead cash management, capital planning, compliance-related financial oversight, and risk-informed decision-making.
- Build, lead, and develop the finance team.
What You Bring
- Senior finance leadership experience in payments, merchant acquiring, payment processing, gateways, ISOs, sponsor bank models, embedded payments, or related fintech environments.
- Strong understanding of payments revenue complexity, merchant acquiring economics, residual reporting, portfolio performance, processing costs, and interchange economics.
- Experience working in a private equity-backed company or directly with private equity sponsors, boards, and investors.
- Ability to connect financial reporting to business performance, operating metrics, and growth decisions.
- Experience building reporting, forecasting, budgeting, controls, and scalable finance processes.
- Comfort operating in a growing middle-market company where the CFO needs to be strategic, hands-on, and close to the details.
- Experience with board reporting, investor communication, capital planning, and business performance reviews.
- Ability to partner with sales, product, risk, underwriting, operations, technology, and executive leadership.
- Experience with merchant portfolios, sponsor bank oversight, residuals, ISO or agent models, ISV partnerships, or complex merchant verticals.
- CPA preferred, but not required.
