About the job Website Technical Manager

Website Technical Manager

DEPLOY is recruiting on behalf of a fast-growing digital agency that builds smart, high-performing digital experiences for leading brands. Our team brings together design, development, data, and technology, and we're lookingmfor someone who loves getting under the hood of a website and making it work better.

The Opportunity

We're looking for an experienced, hands-on Website Technical Manager who knows their way around a CMS and can independently identify, diagnose, and fix technical website issues.

This is not a content SEO position. It is not a strategy role. It is also not a client account management role.

At its core, this is a website management position for someone who enjoys being inside the CMS every day, monitoring site health, finding problems, fixing what they can, and clearly documenting larger issues for the development team. If broken redirects, crawl errors, indexing problems, messy site structures, and CMS quirks feel more like puzzles than headaches, you may be exactly who we're looking for.

What You'll Be Doing

- Work hands-on inside client CMS platforms every day.

- Monitor websites for technical health, performance, accessibility, crawlability, and indexation issues.

- Independently identify, troubleshoot, and resolve technical website problems.

- Run and interpret site crawls, technical audits, indexation reports, Core Web Vitals, and log-file data.

- Find and fix broken links, redirect chains, crawl errors, duplicate content, canonical issues, sitemap problems, and other technical roadblocks.

- Manage and improve site architecture, including URL structures, internal linking, canonical tags, pagination,

redirects, and hreflang.

- Implement and maintain structured data using Schema.org and JSON-LD.

- Make light updates to HTML, CSS, and basic JavaScript when needed.

- Identify issues that require deeper development work and provide developers with clear, actionable requirements.

- Monitor how search engines and AI crawlers discover, render, and interpret website content.

- Support accessibility improvements involving semantic HTML, heading structures, alt text, and ADA/WCAG fundamentals.

- Partner with developers, designers, content teams, project managers, and QA specialists to keep websites healthy and running smoothly.

- Document fixes, recurring issues, and recommended improvements.

What We're Looking For

- 2-6years of experience managing websites, technical SEO, website operations, or a closely related technical discipline.

- Strong, daily, hands-on experience working inside CMS platforms.

- The ability to diagnose and remedy technical site-health issues independently.

- A deep understanding of crawlability and indexation, including robots.txt, sitemaps, canonicals, redirects, pagination, hreflang, and related technical elements.

- Strong working knowledge of HTML, with the ability to read and make light changes to CSS and JavaScript.

- Hands-on experience implementing structured data and JSON-LD schema.

- Experience with tools such as Screaming Frog, Google Search Console, GA4, Ahrefs, Semrush, and log-file analyzers.

- Comfort working with technical data in spreadsheets, exports, dashboards, or APIs.

- Knowledge of ADA/WCAG accessibility fundamentals as they relate to website structure.

- Strong problem-solving skills and the confidence to take ownership of an issue from discovery through resolution.

- The ability to communicate technical findings clearly to developers and internal teams.

- A practical, curious, team-first approach.

Nice to Have

- Experience with WordPress, Webflow, Shopify, Sanity, or headless CMS platforms.

- Familiarity with Git or another version-control system.

- Experience managing multiple websites in an agency environment.

- Knowledge of how AI-powered search and answer engines—such as Google AI Overviews, ChatGPT, and

Perplexity—discover and interpret website content.

- Experience with emerging crawler standards and technologies.

You'll Thrive Here If You

- Love being hands-on and close to the work.

- Notice technical problems other people miss.

- Don't just flag issues—you figure out how to fix them.

- Can move comfortably between a CMS, a site crawler, analytics, and light code.

- Enjoy working with smart, collaborative people across multiple disciplines.

- Take pride in keeping websites clean, healthy, accessible, and performing at their best.

What DEPLOY's client Offers

- A flexible remote or hybrid working environment.

- Unlimited PTO.

- Opportunities to grow your technical expertise and career.

- A talented, collaborative, and supportive team.

- The chance to solve interesting website challenges for leading brands.

- Meaningful work where your technical skills have a visible impact.

If you're the kind of person who sees a website issue and can't resist figuring out what caused it and how to fix it, we'd love to meet you.
