Weld Engineer
About the job Weld Engineer
We have a client seeking a Weld Engineer to perform laser welding, supervision, root cause / corrective actions and providing program support for defense programs. The Welding Engineer will interact with customers, suppliers, and program teams to ensure products meet requirements.
Responsibilities:
- Provide strong mechanical and technical leadership in the laser welding technology area;
- Manage the Capital requirements for laser / resistance welder equipment upgrades and/or replacement to ensure sustainability;
- Metallurgical Evaluations Cutting / Sectioning and Evaluation;
- Following ISO Quality Systems and DCN (change management processes);
- Designing and developing a wide range of welding systems;
- Supervising the workings of other welders and engineering technicians (including safety);
- Maintaining and ensuring all welding equipment is in working order;
- Taking charge and providing leadership of welding projects;
- Performing troubleshooting and finding root cause;
- Perform equipment changeovers and set-ups;
- Implement laser welding machine maintenance and standards across the organization;
- Interact with customers on design, interface, and functional details;
- Support the manufacturing and analysis of energetic materials that require welding;
- Routine technical report writing as necessary in support of projects;
- Coordinate with stakeholders and clients;
- Support the site compliance with DOD / DOE regulations;
- Support project and operations teams;
- Support existing products and product upgrades;
- Participate in failure analysis activities;
- Support bid and proposal activities;
- Other duties as assigned.
Requirements:
- The successful candidate must have a BS/MS in Welding Engineering or similar discipline;
- A minimum of 5 years of industry experience in laser welding is preferred;
- Experience with Laser Welding systems and products using laser welding needed;
- Experience with Resistance and Laser Welding is preferred;
- Ability to achieve DOE Clearance Classified;
- Up to date with the latest industry developments and welding techniques;
- Aerospace and/or defense product experiences are a bonus;
- Must be capable of learning and applying energetics knowledge to various designs, including igniters, detonators, CAD/PAD, and similar energetic devices;
- Experience generating 3D models & 2D drawings;
- Demonstrated understanding of specifications and requirements and how to translate into product designs;
- Ability to analyze engineering blueprints and designs for welding requirements;
- Demonstrated understanding and practice of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T);
- Understanding of product cost drivers;
- Strong written, verbal and presentation skills;
- Ability to handle multiple tasks;
- Proficient with Microsoft Office suite software;
- Experience with SolidWorks, ProE, or AutoCAD software preferred;
- Experience with energetic materials is a bonus;
- Please note that due to the requirements from the Department of Energy, U.S. CITIZENSHIP IS REQUIRED.
