Urban Planning Engineer

 Job Description:

Key roles and responsibilities:

Provide support and participate in liaison with government authorities regarding development objectives,

policies and procedures.

Working from concept design through to detailed design, producing CAD drawings, graphic

presentations and design narratives to budget and schedule.

Working closely with the Master Planners and design team to develop master plan, urban planning and

landscaping solution for various types of project

Interaction and communication with clients and consultants during the design phase and at presentations

Solves problems in connection with the urban design and planning of large projects

Assists in developing urban design and planning concept incorporating site planning, landscape planning,

transportation and infrastructure systems

Assists with the preparation of complete design documents on major projects

Coordinates work with the project team

Responsible for various portions of master plan and site plan development documents team working on

assigned tasks within a project

Solves complex problems in connection with the urban design and planning of large projects

Develops urban design and planning concept incorporating site planning, landscape planning,

transportation and infrastructure systems

Establishes weekly meeting to review project status and formulate action items.

Performs other responsibilities associated with this position as may be appropriate.

Develop narratives on land use, context, concept and detailed maps including SWOT analysis.

Team work and collaboration within a team/dedication to meet client deadlines

Manages, coordinates and leads smaller, less complex projects independently with less oversight. May

lead smaller project client meetings and take ownership of report structure and content.

Coordinates teams to prepare projects deliverables and applicable planning authorities requirements

and coordinate with various disciplines technical input and output into a project or a proposal.

Initiates and drives innovative approaches to efficient project delivery. E.g. improved site analysis

assessment or site planning, due diligence and high-level developer assessment.

Prepares/reviews and understands datasets to correlate population projections against market demands

and supply.

Prepares Methodology for small scale proposals without direct supervision and able to understand and

carry out the necessary internal processes to obtain approvals for proposal submission.

Leads specialty topics / interests in urban planning e.g. wellness planning / placemaking

Up to date with the current industry trends, approaches, tools and methods

The candidate must possess expertise/experience in the following domains:

Proven leadership capability.

Bachelors degree in Urban Planning and design, urban policy, sustainable development or equivalent.

Masters degree preferred.

10+ years of related urban planning / master planning experience is required,

Professional membership such as RTPI, AICP, PIA, CIP, SIP or equivalent preferred.

Incumbent should have a broad general technical and business background such as experience in

developing city visioning, theming, and benchmarking.

Experience in policy development and governance is a plus.

Experience of planning the MENA region especially in the GCC area.

Good knowledge of data collection and research capabilities and ability to analyze qualitative and

quantitative data.

Has solid understanding of various scale of planning projects and determine differences and

requirements and communicates effectively.

Thorough understanding of local and international practice and test standards for Urban planning.

Has the ability to carry out baseline assessment, analyse various data and develop criteria for the

assessment of master plans

Has the ability to develop implementation and phasing planning

Has sound understanding of planning / environmental governance and policy and can communicate

planning / environmental governance and policy and make recommendations to clients where relevant.

Software requirements include indesign, Adobe photoshop, MS office (excel, word, power point).

Strong eye for detail coupled with a methodical and organized approach;

Exceptional verbal and written communication skills will be well utilised and your ability to develop

internal and external working relationships is essential.
