Role Overview

We are seeking a highly experienced Database Administrator (DBA) specializing in MariaDB and PostgreSQL to join a long-term B2B contract in The Hague, Netherlands. The role involves installing, configuring, monitoring, and optimizing databases in a mission-critical, high-security environment. The successful candidate will work onsite and collaborate closely with the clients IT team, ensuring the performance, security, and reliability of enterprise-scale database systems.

Key Responsibilities

• Database Administration & Optimization:
  • Install, configure, patch, upgrade, and maintain MariaDB and PostgreSQL database servers.
  • Define and implement database security policies, ensuring compliance with data protection regulations.
  • Monitor database performance, optimize queries, and analyze data access patterns using SolarWinds DPA.
• Server & Infrastructure Management:
  • Configure, patch, and upgrade virtual servers and operating systems (Windows Server).
  • Define, manage, and monitor database backup strategies, integrating with NetBackup and ensuring data recoverability.
• High Availability & Disaster Recovery:
  • Configure and maintain high availability (HA) and disaster recovery (DR) solutions, including AlwaysOn Availability Groups and Windows Server Failover Clusters.
• Automation & DevOps:
  • Develop and maintain automation scripts for database administration using PowerShell and Bash.
  • Implement DevOps pipelines for database deployments using Azure DevOps, FlyWay, Puppet.
• Incident Management & Change Control:
  • Address incident and change requests in compliance with ITIL processes using an ITSM tool.

Required Qualifications & Experience

• University degree and 10+ years of IT experience.
• Minimum 8 years as an ICT Consultant in large-scale enterprise environments.
• Minimum 6 years of experience in Database Administration in high-security environments.
• Minimum 5 years of experience in MariaDB and PostgreSQL database administration, including:
  • MariaDB / MySQL (MySQL Workbench, mariabackup, mysqlbinlog).
  • PostgreSQL (pgAdmin, pgBackRest, Patroni).
• Expertise in database modeling methodologies, including:
  • Conceptual & Physical Data Modeling.
  • Data Model Normalization & E-R Diagramming.
• Knowledge of advanced enterprise IT architectures and Microservices-based solutions.
• Experience in ITIL-based IT service management.
• Fluent English (spoken & written).

Preferred Skills & Additional Knowledge

• Experience with MongoDB and Cassandra databases.
• Familiarity with complex enterprise architectures and Microservices.
