Overview
The Bookkeeper provides day-to-day bookkeeping services for a portfolio of clients, working closely with accountants, tax preparers, and client-facing teams to ensure accurate financial records, transaction management, and timely reporting. This role requires strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to manage multiple deadlines.
Key Responsibilities
Core Bookkeeping & Transaction Management
- Maintain accurate financial records by establishing accounts and posting transactions
- Process accounts payable and accounts receivable, including vendor bills, invoicing, payment tracking, and follow-up on overdue accounts
- Record payroll transactions and related entries
- Perform monthly bank and credit card reconciliations
- Track expenses and reimbursements
Financial Reporting
- Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements, including income statements, balance sheets, and cash flow statements
- Support preparation of financial reports for tax filings, audits, or internal reviews
- Assist with year-end close and preparation of financial information for tax returns
Client Support
- Serve as a primary point of contact for bookkeeping-related client inquiries
- Gather financial documentation and ensure compliance with accounting best practices
- Assist clients with setup and use of accounting software such as QuickBooks or Xero
Compliance & Documentation
- Maintain client records in compliance with legal and firm standards
- Organize and manage client documents and financial records in digital systems
Team Collaboration & Technology
- Partner with accountants and tax preparers to ensure accurate coordination between bookkeeping and tax work
- Use accounting software to maintain records and generate reports
- Stay current on accounting tools and workflow improvements that increase accuracy and efficiency
Core Qualifications
- Associate degree or higher in Accounting, Finance, or related field
- 2+ years of bookkeeping experience
- Proficiency in QuickBooks, Xero, or similar accounting platforms
- Strong understanding of accounts payable, accounts receivable, and general ledger management
Preferred Skills
- Payroll processing experience
- Familiarity with U.S. tax regulations
- Experience supporting multiple clients in a fast-paced environment
- Accounting or bookkeeping certification
Work Environment
- Overtime may be required during peak tax seasons
- Remote or in-office work depending on firm needs
- Occasional client site visits may be required
