Prioritized Must Have Skills for the Director of Ohio Region:
#1. Must have PE License
#2. 10 years of experience in bridge or roadway design and related transportation structures and facilities
#3. No more than three jobs in the past 10 years.
#4. Experience preparing roadway/structure plans for ODOT projects
#5. Experience with MicroStation and/or AutoCAD.
#6. Must have a valid drivers license.
Responsibilities of the Director:
The Director of Ohio Region leads our Columbus office and oversees our operations in Ohio. The Director is responsible for all activities of the Ohio office including business development, project delivery, client development and relations, the professional and technical development of staff, and office management and success. This position requires exceptional communication skills, strong team orientation, and the ability to successfully manage multiple business lines. This leader will work with collaborative partnerships with the management team, other Office Managers, Project Managers, Marketing, HR, Accounting, and others.
- Develop clients throughout Ohio, by meeting with ODOT Districts Directors and Engineers, County Commissioners, Engineers, Superintendents, Mayors, and City Engineers, etc.
- Meeting with potential clients to build and strengthen relationships.
- Provide ongoing business-client relationship and account management services to clients and be the primary liaison with the client.
- Communicate with department directors/project managers for projects within the region.
- Develop a strategic plan for growth in the region which includes staffing as well as workload.
- Join organizations such as ACEC, ASCE, County Engineers Association, ASHE, etc.
- Assist the Marketing Department with maintaining a project profile database and pictures of completed projects.
- Provide monthly progress reports to the President.
- May handle or assist HR and supervisors with discipline and termination of employees in accordance with company policy.
- Management of roadway or bridge projects, including client, prime, and sub-consultant coordination.
- Manage staff for the design of roadway or bridge projects. This may include assisting with design analysis, horizontal alignment, vertical alignment, drainage design, ditch profile, guardrail calculations, super elevation diagrams, structural analysis, etc.
Other job duties may include:
- Supervise/Design and prepare plans for small structure projects.
- Assist in preparing CAD drawings using GEOPAK, INROADS, and MICROSTATION software.
- Supervise staff developing construction plans from engineering design calculations.
- Supervise or perform quantity calculations and cost estimates for projects.
- Supervise/ Design and prepare erosion control plans.
- Supervise/Design and prepare plans for Roundabouts.
- Supervise/ Prepare plans for maintenance of traffic of roadway projects.
- Attend various meetings such as field checks, public information, hearings, and pre-construction.
Requirements of the Director:
- Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering (BSCE).
- P.E. License with a minimum of 10 years of experience in bridge or roadway design and related transportation structures and facilities
- Previous Management/Supervisor experience in an engineering office is preferred.
- Previous Business/Client Development experience in the state and local civil engineering industry preferred.
- Experience preparing and managing project budgets.
- Experience in preparing technical proposal responses.
- Experience preparing roadway/structure plans for ODOT projects.
- Strong technical writing and verbal communication skills
- Experience with MicroStation and/or AutoCAD.
- A valid driver's license is required.
- Must be highly organized and detail oriented.
- Possess excellent time management skills.
- Prior project management experience is a plus, but not required.
Other Key Requirements:
- 100% onsite, in-office work
- No sponsorships or visa holders. No Corp-to-Corp.
- This position has a work schedule that is not strictly a traditional 8-5 workday and may include evening meetings and some conferences requiring travel and overnight stays.
